a 16g is no different for durability than a 14b they're both Mitsubishi turbos and use the same basic internals. Id say go with the 16g if anything.

I know the small 16g is practically the same as a 14b...But i have a big 16g and i think it would be well worth the money

The turbo i have (mitsubishi evoIII big 16g) is 600$ on dsmtuners.com. Pretty fair price wise...

How many miles are on your 2G? I'm asking because after some miles build up on these cars, it seems like the T25 POS likes to eat itself for unknown reasons. I've seen it happen many times, even on bone stock cars. So if you're concerned about reliability, as long as you install it correctly, or have it installed by a shop who knows what's up, the 16G will more than likely outlast the stock turbo on your car. It won't make the car any less reliable either, the engine has been proven to take WAY more than what that turbo can put out, and the transmission will be just fine as long as you don't shift like a jackass. You will more than likely need to upgrade the clutch to hold the extra power. I also say if you're looking into a 16G, get the EVO III 16G.

I am getting the Big 16g that is sitting at SLS. I think I will be pretty satisfied with it though.

If your looking at the reliablilty of a 16g, you can't really be to specific. It's going to depend on so many different factors.

First, is the current condition of your car. Headgasket, condition of the entire motor, just so many variables.

The general rule is, as you make more power, the more your going to break.

16g / 14b arent that huge, and don't make that much power, but as with anything, its how you drive it.

If you beat the fuck out of your car, its going to break.

As far as supporting mods for a small/big 16g:

                    550cc injectors

                    Fuel pump upgrade

                    Clutch (espcially if AWD)

AFC, EMS, or chipped ECU and something to monitor EGTs or A/F ratio (otherwise...watch for fuel cut and too lean situations).

COMPLETE exhaust...2.5" or larger. Anything smaller and you'll never reap the benefits of a larger turbo.

Upper intercooler pipe upgrade or FMIC, with a new BOV (1g, Greddy...etc.).

NGK BPR7ES plugs gapped at 0.028.

                    8mm wires at least

Make sure the rest of the maintenance is up to date (ie fuel filter, timing belt, etc.)

Look for anything upwards of 280+whp on pump to as much as 375whp on race gas.
