But Verizon doesn't own any GSM networks...?integra_gsr98;274818 wrote:
AT&T bought the Alltel networks in ND, SD, and various other places. There won't be "AT&T" coverage here for at least another 15 months or so either. They have to convert every alltel tower to GSM in order to provide service....

If you are an actual verizon customer nothing is changing for you.

The way Jim made it sound, it will never change. I understand it takes time to build new towers/ set up a network. I just want to know if were getting AT&T service in place of our verizon service in the next year or 2 so I can decided whether I want a new phone or not.

Joel...CellularOne was around here for like forever and then got bought out by Alltel. Alltel then got bought out, nationaly, by Verizon. People flipped out beacuse Verizon would have a 'monopoloy' on service in the Midewest so they were threatened with a huge class action lawsuit unless they got rid of ___ assests. They decided that the *extra *assests in the Midwest, ND/SD/ect, were expendable so Verizon pretty much just sold their Alltel rights to AT&T. It's pretty cut and dry...if you have Alltel service, expect to *sometime *soon be 'switching' over to AT&T. You have nothing to worry about.
ps. My mom had a contract with CellularOne for a long ass time, and when they got bought out they have to honor exsisting contracts...so once again she will be transfering her contract over to AT&T. idk why i just shared that.

actually it means that you'll be able to get a local phone number and still use GSM hardware.
It may mean that AT&T makes some GSM investments in the area as well. There are plenty of people [myself included] using GSM phones in fargo, but none of us have local phone numbers.
If At&T does some infrastructure build out, it will be a net-win for all GSM customers currently in fargo. If they just start selling new GSM handsets here and don't do anything with coverage or capacity, it will probably be a net loss for existing GSM users like myself.

who cares...at&t's contract with apple is up in september and apple is going to have a contract with verizon now...
its been in the fargo forum the past 4 days....
