Finished another gun today with testing
-
My dad and I finished another .50cal blackpowder. My brother wanted this one built to hunt elk at 400 yards, in CO .45cal is not allowed so we had to go bigger. Its a Traditions Pursuit XLT II receiver with a 36" barrel, 1/20 twist. Weight is 8.6lbs without sights or the ramrod. Turned out really nice, we make the complete barrel from raw stock that is turned chambered and threaded, all mounts are made and welded on and such. heres some data we got on it tonight, picked up 302fps with our barrel over the stock one, and a huge amount of range and accuracy
Using a 350gr FPB bullet and Blackhorn powder (the best)
150gr--2230fps
120gr--1995fps
100gr--1793fpsUsing a 240gr .45 sabot and Blackhorn powder
150gr--2415fps
120gr--2330fpsUsing the standard short barrel as purchased from Traditions, 350gr FPB bullet
150gr--1928fps. -

I always wanted a black powder rifle, sure the reload times aren't exactly that of a repeater or semi-auto, but I think it gives you a more authentic or pure gun feeling, so to speak.
