Well, I do, because I'd let most of the people in jail on drug charges out of jail. IMO, crimes need to have victims to be real crimes, and "yourself" isn't a valid victim. Ergo, most drug offenses aren't *offensive to me *at all.
If blacks were still going to jail at 4x the rate of the white population even when drug convictions were thrown out (which they may well be), I'd be pretty curious about the underlying causes of that.
On the other hand, if the data were to show that black people are in jail because they know the cheapest way to get free rent, meals, and cable TV for a few years is to be caught carrying weed, should I be mad at them, or should i be mad at the stupid laws/enforcement in this country?

And it's all intellectual rather than pragmatic anyway: the fact that 8% of the black population is currently in jail doesn't tell you anything about the black guy infront of you -- he may have already done time and got let out and is just itching to find someone to victimize so he can get a ticket back in, or he may be so good that he never gets caught, or he could be like the overwhelming majority of blacks that simply don't commit serious crimes.

I'm actually not someone who gets butthurt about using the word nigger, and always got a chuckle when black kids at school referred to me that way. But I would like to know what the obsession is with classifying black people into two groups and reserving "the word" for one of them.
Since the word has a magical power to upset people, I like it and the butt-hurt power it holds, but I can't say that it has any real non-imflammatory purpose. If I'm understanding you right, you're trying to defend the use of the word because there are so many worthless black people that they need their own special word to describe them.
So I repeat my question: can you tell me what word I should use to describe the worthless members of the white race that has the magical 0-to-irrational power of "nigger"? Because if we're playing numbers, I ought to be using the "worthless whites" word alot more than the well used "worthless blacks" one...

I use the word because it is a derogatory (sp?) word that belittles them. And that is exactly what they deserve if they are going to be useless piles of trash in our society. What about the people inbetween? Well.. They are not in jail so I'm willing to bet they hold a job. Hell of a lot better than being in jail is it not?

Convictions/accusations statement is complete garbage. They were found guilty of a crime. Tough shit. Deal with it.
I never said just because they didn't go to school that it doesn't make them "worthwhile". If they can't hold a job, are in prison, are criminals, etc.. they are not worthwhile.
If they at least make an attempt to be a civil human being (aka working to make a living), they are just as welcome as you or I are.

I guess I'd make one movie that had lots of both in it.

Now Link, I understand that you have different opinions of people based on what they've done to get to where they are today (scum vs ordinary hardworking people), what I don't understand is why you'd intentionally make yourself appear to be a racist by calling anyone a nigger.
