Where to get CV boots replaced on 04 passat?
-
I have a friend that lives in Fargo that has an 04 VW Passat. Valley Imports told him that both CV boots are cracked but not leaking and they wanted $600+ to replace them. I told him I would ask on here for a recommendation on a shop to get the replaced. I know absolutely nothing about the shops in Fargo and figured this would be the place to ask.
Thanks guys!

The Passat is no different than any other Fwd car other than the special tools required to remove the shaft itself. A 10mm serrated bit/socket for the inner flange and an actual bolt retains the outer shaft to the hub (Cannot remember what is used there anymore). As long as the tech has these two pieces, its as straight forward as any other shaft.

The shop in moorhead is sportscar engineering, Dave [the guy that runs it] is awesome, and has done CV rebuilds for me on an Audi. Great job, great prices.I would trust Dave at Sportscar with any car I'll ever buy. He's one of the most honest and knowledgeable mechanics around. My Volvo had a mystery problem that ended up being the fuse box, but after we put a lot of money into it he did all the work for free. He's a stand up guy and probably one of the most capable mechanics around, I'd recommend him X983273.
The shop is located right by MSUM, if you go there and get a chance to look around the shop check out his old VW race cars in the back...sweeeeeeeet.....

I have done a tone of these boots. I always order the boot kit from VW/Audi. It requires the hub bolt to be replaced, and are a bitch to get out. Tend to need to heat them up with a torch to loosen them a bit. Last set I did ran roughly $350-400. Unless want the axles themselves replaced, then its a little more. Depends on how long it has been driven and if the joints are shot. If it is actually clicking while turning, you will need the joints replaced.
