Err, maybe that's a bad way to start the thread.

Anyway, we've got a small group of engineering students at NDSU looking to borrow/purchase a 13b or 12a/13a for that matter.. Or, 20b? Anyone, anyone? Ok, maybe not that far...

Anyway, We are looking for someone who has a Rotary either whole or not, blown or not, and out of the car preferably.

    Why?

We are going to use it to make a to scale 3-dimensionl model in pro-engineer. Pro-e is a program much like Solidworks if anyone is familiar. Personally, I prefer solidworks, However, our school uses pro-e.

So, basically, If you have a unit out of the car for one reason or another, or are looking to sell your junk motor, I'm interested. We will not be doing any destructive measurements of any kind, simply need to be able to open the housings and take multitudes of measurements with a caliper, and getting the Rotors would be nice because we have a machine that will take all the dimensions for us for complex parts...

Think of it as a way to get on the good side of a group of people who may be able to cnc you parts one day!
Hope someone's got a motor available, thanks!

I have an S5 13b N/A sitting on a stand in my garage. I don't know how much your looking to spend or if you would want to drive to Bemidji to get it. I was talking to Grr about getting the wheels he was selling. If you gave him 100 for the wheels and brought them here I'd trade you straight up motor for the wheels. Rear rotor has no compression, but the motor is 100% complete keg with most of the parts stripped off. Let me know.

I'll Pm you my #, call me if you think this sounds good.

yeah, that was a fun project. Is Dr bob still teaching that class? my group did a turbocharger. We got 128 our of 100 possible. he gave us a lot of extra credit points for the difficulty. My suggestion is to do something smaller. There are many times that we had to go back and reference those parts and they are alot easier when you can bring them into the lab with you.

LOL at Dr bob, that guy is definitely one of a kind

I would pick something smaller like he said.... we did a full trigger assembly from a ruger 10/22 and that was plenty with all the parts

                  Eyes! Eyes!

                  Yea, he still teaches it...

We were considering doing a turbocharger with a 1 cyl engine. that would be badass.

But we are going to get an engine and disassemble it, so we can take it with us.

That would be sweet. I guess I've never really looked at a rotary close but I can't imagine they're too complex? Although I know somone in our class did a little carb off of a 4 wheeler or something and had a hell of a time measuring and modeling all the tiny little parts. I could swear Dr. Bob is bipolar lol I thought he wasn't even teaching anymore. Ah I remember those days, staying till like 3AM in the lab... good times.
