The more I read on the GTR's issues, the more I dont like the car. First the transmission, now this. The car will end up being un-insurable.

They still have the transmission issues this year? Or did they delete the launch option to avoid any further issues?

As far as I know, that has not been deleted. I could be mistaken though.

The pedestrian safety system is apparently not installed on NA market cars.

              Still, that bill is crazy.

So... not real familiar with the whole pedestrian saftey system but how is the hood popping up supposed to protect pedestrians?

I have been thinking how this could serve any purpose at all for some time now.

We were discussing this at work. We've figured it outL You're going something like 120mph when some old lady steps out in front of you. BAM, you hit her. However, your Pedestrian Safety function kicks in, popping the hood and deflecting the old lady up and over the cabin of the vehicle some 45ft into the air, saving all occupants from certain death.

                    Maybe?

does it kinda dampen the impact of hitting the hood? or pop up enough to put someone over the car instead of through the windshield? hahaha i have no idea. we could look it up but that takes effort

If anything I would think the hood flying up into them would generate more of an impact force though.....

Looks like the hood pops up and acts a a dampening force for the body to land upon at lower speeds.

It causes the torso and head [where the important shit is -- your legs are fucked at this point] to roll upwards along the plane of the hood, onto the roof. You get more than half the length of the car for the pedestrian body to accelerate and decelerate.

This is preferable to being stopped [or not stopped, or partially stopped -- YUCK], by the windshield glass, or some combination of the windshield glass and the roof [like arms/chest through glass, head/neck stopped by the roof. Oops :)]

And the fact that the ecu has to be replaced after that nifty little feature kicks in is just rediculous.

It is to allow a crumple zone between the body of the person and the engine. It does actually significantly lower the force of impact as it can absorb energy, before contacting the relatively solid engine.
