July 10 Autocross in Grand Forks?
-
anybody attend? It was a good time. Lots of "northern Neighbors" from Winnipeg came down and showed us how to drive.
Oh well, they all had R-Compound tires. Next time there is an autocross, consider stopping by and competing, it is great fun, it is safe, and cheap! Did I mention fun? You can check out the Badlands Region SCCA web site at: http://blizzard.rwic.und.edu/~nordlie/cars/ Next event is August 15th in Bismarck.Oh, if anybody knows where we can secure a large paved parking lot, we would love to hold an event in the Fargo area, contact me or the folks on the region web site above.

I was there, was on the other size by the Mazda 6 and black GTZ. also a nissan maxima
i have some video no pics tho

If it is large enough, I think the West Acres parking lot would be good, specifically the Sears one. It's almost always empty, easily accessible, next to a place that does car work...seems to me that some kind of a deal could be struck with the Sears auto center. Coupons/deals for alignments, tire work or something. Mills Fleet is another place that comes to mind.
I know years ago an event was held at the Fargodome, why hasn't one been held there since?

They want a fortune for lot rental at the FargoDome. We need an area that is fairly large, especially if there are light poles in the lot itself (as most large lots have). Another event coming up on august 10 in Bismarck. See the event calander on this forum, or the BRSCCA web site for more details (or just ask me, I am the Event Director).

Lothurin: Do you have any video of me (Blue STi - 41 ESP)?
-
mym6: There are loaner helmets, so not to worry. Non-SCCA members pay an extra $5 per event, so registration would be $20-30, depending on the event (some lots rent for more than others). Everybody is friendly and willing to help a new racer, so come out a bit early and talk to some people!

well DAMN. I never realized that the badlands region had updated it's stuff. guess I've been to busy the last 2 months.....really want a chance to get some AutoX time in this year....
Figured I was going to be stuck heading to St Cloud or the MPLS area.
Any thoughs/plans of being back in the GF area this summer? (or Fargo)
[Bismarck and Minot are farther than I want to trailor my car after I break it

dubbsy: No plans for any more GF or Fargo events this year. We are actively seeking a lot in the Fargo area to hold an event. If you have any ideas, we would love to hear! The event in Grand Forks was sort of a test to see how well we would be received in the Grand Forks area. It was fantastic, and we will be looking to hold more events next summer in GF! The lot in GF is very expensive, and the administration at the Aleris was very hesitant to rent us the lot to race cars. We conducted ourselves very well, and hopefully they will be favorably impressed and allow us to hold more events there. The lot is large and very well-suited for autocross.
If you know of a potential lot in Fargo, please inform me! We would love to hold an event there! We need something at least 100 yards wide on the short side, and preferably at least 200x200 yards. That is a lot of pavement, and finding such sites is difficult!

Has the fairgrounds been tried (I'm betting it has)? There is quite a large paved area (I'm not sure on the quality of the pavement though) where the midway is set up during the fair (which I'm sure most know..heh)
Don't suppose there are any DOT "proving grounds" in the FM area are there? (similar to the St.Cloud setup)
West Acres Mall was mentioned, but being it's open 7 days a week, I'm betting it'd be a chore to get them to close up a parking lot for us.
(hmmm, wonder if i could get the trailor up to par and snag a pickup to haul myself out to Bismark.....)

Sorry i didnt get back to you earlier, I've been in Cavalier and Adams all weekend watching burn outs and attending car shows.u can goto http://www.wpg-autox.org/ and under media it should have pics and videos...they have all the videos that i took. I was using a digital camera so all i really got was the back half of the course. I know I got a few of that blue CRX and a couple others cars.

Lothurin: Thanks for taping the event! I already checked out the Winnipeg Sports Car Club web page and viewed the videos. You even got a nice shot (and commentary) on me on my first run when I had to back up to navigate a gate. Live and learn.... it did not look that tight in the walk-through, and I didn't want to just motor through it and pick up 4-5 cones!
Oh well, my later runs were considerably better
The video number 231 is my first run (where I had to back up
), Number 242 is a later run. -
yeah we kinda were laughing at some of the people that were doing that...i dunno why no one learned (besides the experience drivers) to go out alittle wider...
