Nobody other than the service provider will be able to track the phone's signal and see what towers it is in range of...Nobody here will be able to help you.

So they did finally confirm that if we wanted to press felon charges they would locate her, she has been caught in sioux city SD, tracing the phone woulda done nothing for us...she threw her phone outta the car while she was driving...ugh...fuckin 16yr old girls...im just glad that my sister is finally safe and in jail being held until the parents go and get her. I cant even imagine how bad this coulda been...

I really dont know...its fuckin stupid...supposedly my parents are soooo hard on her that she hates them sooo much, so they wont let her be with her white trash bf? shes a dumb girl and doesnt see that hes trash and she shouldnt be associated with him. I am not sure what her plan was.

Also, this shit isnt like Fast and furious, you cant just call, say your officer o'connell, and give a number and recieve the location.
That being said, if there is a warrant, Etc. provided, and the everything is faxed and verified, with the legal department, it can happen.Of course, just putting a gps locater application, like family locator, would be the easiest way for tracking a stupid 16 yr old girl.
AND, yes, we could see the tower number that a call was recieved/sent from without a warrant, and yes that tower is given a "General location" i.e. all of the 11 or so towers here in fargo are labeled "Fargo." Obviously, no calls, no tower location.
oh, and there is no PING that they can do..........other than just calling that number.

- I never said anything about a "secret" way to track
- I never meant that he could just call up a local store to do the tracking, I kind of figured he was smart enough to realize that
- I never said that it was as simple as CSI/FNF/Whatever other stupid show you bring up makes cell tracking out to be
Next time you should try clarify what I was saying rather than making completely wrong assumptions...

Whoever you asked very well may not be able to tell you where a given handset is. But technically, that answer is horseshit.
If the handset is on, its approximative geo location (certainly which city / service area) can be determined, irrespective of GPS or anything else. Otherwise cellphone roaming would be impossible.
