Your diagnosis was awesome... Who told you it has cracked heads? did you see the crack in both heads yourself? Throw the car away, its not worth your time or money... The car is non turbo. Sell it for scrap and find a well running turbo vehicle if thats what you are after. they are dirt cheap now a days.

no race car? becuz homeowner...

If you are going to spend any money on it, just rebuild it completely stock and save a huge amount of headache.

PM me for:
Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
Diesel repairs or performance products.

The car/engine is NOT worth the money to fix it. Cut your losses and get rid of it. My personal opinion. If it came factory turbo'd (Mitsubishi engine), then it may be worth fixing. But, since it is non-turbo (Chrysler engine) its not worth the effort. Your honestly better off taking the money required to fix it along with the 150-200 the car is worth in crushing weight, and buy something different.

I don't want it turbo'd. I have heard many ppl already tell me to scrap it and find something better but this isn't/won't be a daily driver. I'm looking to restore it and just cruise around a few days out of the year. Fiancé picked this car and wanted it. Personally I would've went for a 93-94 300zx.

Anyway. It's over at braatens in grand forks, they looked it over and said the low end isn't damaged and only needs new heads and a few other parts. Timing is fine, he said the timing belt slipped and caused the damaged. I don't know much about what's goin on. Slowly learning. Just something doesn't add up. The radiator smells like gas and I have no idea what would cause that.

First off.... it only has one head. Secondly, if the timing belt slipped and that did enough damage to ruin the head/valvetrain I would be quite concerned about the lower end as well. What did you pay for this car? I don't mean to be a hater but I think you should consider what the other guys have said and starting looking into an exit strategy. This seems like a mess. You're going to have more into it then it's worth by the time you get this thing running.

$300. The person I bought it from was asking $800.

Ok first. It doesn't have "head(s)", it has A cylinder head. Second. If the timing belt slipped, and caused the damage, THE TIMING IS NOT FINE. Third. You restore a 1970 Chevelle, a 69 Super Bee, a 1962 Ferrari GTO, not a 95 eclipse gs non-turbo. You are going to have as much money into fixing this car as it would be to find an identical car running. If the timing belt jumped, it probably bent valves. When you do that, you ALWAYS replace all the related parts that it takes to do the job.

1. timing components (ALL PARTS PERTAINING TO THE JOB..belt, idler pulley, tensioner, etc) $200.00
2. water pump $40.00-$60.00
3. cylinder head gasket
4. intake gasket
5. valve cover gasket
3-5 have to be removed to get your bent valves replaced. About $100.00-$130.00 for those parts
6. the machine work and parts to actually fix the bent valves Usually $200-$350.00
7. paying someone to do the work (Im assuming this as you dont seem knowledgeable enough to accomplish this task on your own which is 10-11 hours billable)
If you go by my local rate of $70.00/hr which Fargo/Moorhead is surely higher, you have a minimum of 700.00 dollars right there.
Typically, its about a $1200.00 dollar job to have done at any reputable shop and a dealership will be more. Oh and add an oil chaneg to the mix.
You stated you dont know much and are slowly learning. Im trying to teach you without you spending the money foolishly and a car that may "look" cool to you and your woman but in reality isnt worth squat. If it was FACTORY TURBOCHARGED, it may be a different story but in all reality, the non turbo Eclipse is a glorified Dodge Neon. In fact, the Neon is faster because it is lighter. Just some food for thought.

Sell it for scrap, that's all it's good for. Take it from people who know what they are talking about. And the thought of restoring a run-of-the-mill car just to drive when it's nice out is a foolish one. There is absolutely nothing special about that car.
