Dyno Results (for real this time)
-
Ok, went to RS and got tuned today, still having a problem w/ the car not wanting to shift at redline, but I think I know how to solve that. (DAMN YOU TURBOXS FOR HAVING UPGRADED SOFTWARE THAT DOESN'T WORK AS WELL AS THE OLD VERSION...WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? MICROSOFT???!?!?!?!?!?!!)
Anyways, the best run of the day that I had (in 94% heat w/ 84% humidity on a Mustang Dyno which are notoriously low HP # dynos to begin with) 286 WHP and 293 lbs/ft torque on pump gas w/ just 16.5 psi, according to them it should be roughly the equivalent of 320 WHP on a Dynojet. Never had a chance to run c16 or get tuned for it, I spent 6 hours on the dyno learning just how far off my tune was..lol. Ron was very good at explaining exactly what/where/why we were making changes to my maps, so I learned a lot today. I will definately be going back sometime to get tuned for race fuel, as we just ran out of time to get anything more done (they are located by a residential area and one of the neighbors tends to bitch if they make any noise after 6pm when the local noise ordinance goes into effect).
In a nutshell, I was very impressed, even though I didn't get the 300+ WHP that I was hoping for on pump gas. On a cooler day, w/ bigger fans to cool the IC and more time to tune, I believe it would easily be possible.

The order has been placed for a high stall TC. There is currently a waiting list to get one, but I've been on it for a little while now. Thanks to this tune I can now launch on boost, which is a very nice feeling. During the last run I did on the dyno, they simulated a 1/4 mile run for me, 12.2 @ 118 or something like that. The turbo spools unbelievably fast now, makes me wish I had gone 20G or Green, but I was worried about lag (I know Dave, I know, if it doesn't take N2O to spool up, its not big enough
)Will definately be at sabin next weekend for its maiden voyage after being tuned.

Great numbers Chuck. I was hoping to get a call from you while you were down here. Oh well, maybe next time. You should shoot me an e mail when you come down - I also have some LCD/Navi install questions for you.
Nice numbers though - especially for how FUCKING hot it has been down here and the fact that its a Stang Dyno (15% less than jets)

Man I would have called, but I was kinda out of time by the time we got done tuning (I got to town @ midnite the night before and left @ 7:45 yesterday...basically I had the dyno to myself all day for $200
)my email is "], shoot me an email there for any ?'s on lcd/navi/multimedia/stereo/etc.
I will be in town for Autovations for sure, will have to look you up then.

$200!? Stellar deal! You never know in sometime here I might do that. Just bought a new car though on top of the WRX so I had to throw some money down. Thinking about putting rims on the new car or at least tint. I bought a Toyota Camry Solara V6....Lexus ride on a camry budget

As for the comment going 20G or green, I think you'll be fine on the 18G setup with those kind of numbers. Low 12's out of the EJ20 are very respectable especially on an auto trans. You just going TC or you going swap for an STI tranny?
-
yeah, 200 for a day on the dyno. They did owe me a bit of a favor though, normal rates would have been 840 for 6 hours of dyno time.
I have no desire to go 6spd. Too many shifts required to run the 1/4 for my tastes. Besides, my wife drives the car also on a fairly regular basis and isn't all that good at using a manual (and I don't want her learning a new car w/ a fairly expensive clutch). Probably gonna do the Easy Street route when i finally grenade my tranny, its hella expensive, but bulletproof. To start, I am getting a ProTorque TC w/ a stall that is about 800 RPM higher than stock. Also, I am looking at getting a new valve body from levelten performance so I can get some quicker shifts.
-
WRX's need quickershifts FOR SURE the valve body would help TONS. Please keep me posted on details.

I'll be there, no guarantees on how well I'll do, but I should at least not embarrass myself. LOL

See ya there.

good job chuck, nice to hear you got it all together. Now we hope it stays together for you. The 5 speed trannies hold about 300 ft lbs of torque. it will be interesting to see what the Auto does. my trani has been holding up so far. But the clutch is dun. Just got my Exedy so we will see how that does next weekend. I'm gonna try some flat shifting this time see if I can pick up a couple tenths. prolly need it to hang with you..... See you out on the first..... congrats

lets race chuck.

Sure, I'm all for racing now that I'm tuned
, I just want to make sure the first race I do is at the track, don't know why, just call me superstitious or something. From what I can gather at nasioc, the auto should hold together until 400 torque or so, Phil @ elementtuning claims they have a 500 WHP auto running around somewhere, and I'd assume the torque #'s would be at least in the mid to upper 400's. So I'm taking that as good news. Now that I have a good idea on how to go about tuning my car, does anyone have a favorite inexpensive wideband that they like to use for tuning? I would really like to pick one up for this weekend so i can tune for some race fuel and 24 psi, just to see how much faster I can get. I know someone had said that Volkswagon has a wideband sensor that is pretty inexpensive, now I just need someone who has a reader to let me borrow it for a couple of runs. hint hint /cough dave /cough
Having said that, what AFR are you running on your race gas maps Shane? I was thinking like 11.8:1 would be pretty safe and maybe even 12:1 on C16, maybe just a hair richer if I crank the boost to 24. I guess the only way to really know is to start tuning and look for knock, right?
Chuck
PS. Now I just need to decide who I want to line up against first, someone who will utterly destroy me, so when I do lose it is expected, or someone who is about my equal so that I have the added pressure to perform...I'm thinking of losing my first race, less pressure and more chance for me to monitor to see if I have knock anywhere.

alright sounds good, wont be there on the 1st, ill prolly race on the 17th.
