Palm vs PocketPC depends on what you're going to hook it up with. I'm not sure if PocketPC works in Linux. But at the same time it's been years since I synced my Palm using Linux.
I've heard that the Word/Excel product on PocketPC isn't as good as DocumentsToGo on the Palm side, but I know that PocketPC syncs much more smartly with Outlook. Getting an older Palm (i705) to sync with Outlook 2003 can be a major PITA. If I ever get a new PDA I'll go PocketPC for that fact alone. But, they're generally more expensive than the Palm equivalent. Either way I'm stuck with Palm in a sense because I track all my car maintenance in it using a Palm only app.
