You would want a DC - DC Powersupply in your computer. Inverter's create too much noise if you want to use audio...
Cost depends on what options you want.
There is indash motorized, in dash non motorized, 7" regular lcd (flush mount).
Liliputt is a cheaper brand then xenarc but also has a higher failure rate. Xenarc is considered to be one of the better (and brighter during the day).

yeah good pointCouldn't it just be hard wired? Computers are 12 volt anyways.

Yes, but the power supply already converts it from 120 to 12 volt, just wire it in like you would a new power supply except it would be wired to cars electrical system. Red,yellow and black wires, that should give you the power. I'm not thinking you should have to wire anything to the mother board except the fore mentioned wires.
Just a thought/theory.

thats a ton of wires...
im still not sure i get what your saying...the power supply converts it yes...but you have to think theres gonna be a 20or 24pin connector to the motherboard, 4pin connector to each drive, and a 4pin connector to power the card slots. Also, depending if the board accepts the 24pin connector or not you may need the secondary 4pin power...regardless if its running with a 12v input or 120v input power supply it still needs to have those wires...

I dont think you have opened up a computer.
Your car doesnt put out a consistant 12v. It ranges from like 10v-20v, computer parts NEED the consistancy of 12v or they blow up.
You couldn't supply more then 12v to a harddrive and expect it to work. Tony is also right, there would be a bazillion wires to do this too even if you did have a stable 12v source.
DC-DC Powersupplies are the way to go

Reasons why you can't use auto power directly to power a PC
-
typical comp pwr supplies are +12/-12v combined, along with +5/-5V, depends on ATC/ATX style
-
Computers use a very tightly regulated power supply ( as the voltage does not vary more than a few milliVolts, if that, from the actual supply voltage. More or less would destroy/cause malfunction of the hardware. Due to the charging/discharging process of the alternator/starter of the vehicle, the voltage available will vary from app. 10.5V to 13.8V in most vehicles.
-
Other reasons.....but these two are the main ones.
