So I was driving in the middle of nowhere today, theres a guy turning so I breaked (I was in 5th), downshifted in to 3rd once I was slowed down, but to my surprise it felt like there was nothing there.

The engine revved up like i was still stepping on the gas in neutral, try to put it in 4th, no luck just had huge grind. I was able to quickly put it in 5th and keep going. Anyway I was about 40 minutes away from where I was going, all highway, so I originally thought it could be my clutch, but don't think so now, becuase i was totally fine in 5th gear.

I get about two mines from my desination, take it out of 5th gear as I had slowed way down to make a turn. Then the car stalls even though its in what appeared to be neutral. So here I am stopped in the middle of the road, can't get it in to any gear (that will drive), and can't get it in to neutral to push it. Cables were fine, couldn't manually move them either.

So basically here's how it sits, can't get it in to any gear (that will move), can't get it in to neutral.

WTF happened, there were no warning signs, I wasn't beating on the car.... I ended up having to get towed for $100 cuase the nearest town was far away.

Holy shit Jim that sucks. You might have bent your shift fork, but that tends to happen when you bottom out your car.

See if your insurance will cover tow costs. My insurance has always been good about that, even when I was towed from an apartment spot

I read up on Forks... it sounds like my 3-4 fork broke.

Yeah more than likely a 3-4 fork. The 2G trannies are notorious for the weak 3 & 4 gearsets. Hopefully it's not very bad.

why would goofing up the 3-4 fork cause 1 and 2 to fail?

It wouldn't cuase the 1-2 to fail, but it would cuase it to be stuck in 3rd-4th... not allowing me to move it in to any other gear or in to N

probably because he had it in 5th when it broke and tried shifting to 3rd
