now with listening to why the name is offesive couldnt they just shorten the name to the "souix" and just leave off the "fighting" part, the word souix shouldnt be offesive to anybody i can see why the word fighting in front of it can make it seem like native americans are all violent people

As stated earlier, most of the people bitching aren't even native amaerican WTF. Why should they care if there called the fighting sioux, the only ones who's opinions matter should be the native american themselves and only the sioux at that. Your right I lived in Devils Lake just a few miles from the largest Souix res in the area and eveyone I know from out their are very proud of the name and most are fans of the sports teams cause of the name.... besides changing the name have you been in the und arena's they have the souix logo built into the building all over it would probably cost a few million to remove all the heads.... even the alerus center with the football contract with UND has souix heads in the floors of the locker rooms

on a side note, maybe the reason that some people get so worked up over the "Souix" name, is cuz it was a swear word of the Mandan indian tribe that they gave the "Souix" tribe. the name just stuck and has been used ever sense.

the logos are in the granite of the floors, and everywhere. it would be impossible to remove them, let alone cover them up, i dont see any change in the name or anything, und could not afford to lose both the ralph and the betty, which is for basketball and volleyball

I agree it is a bunch of BS. As a sioux cheerleader myself this change would kill us budget wise to get all new uniforms which we just bought new last year, plus we would have to change like 75% of our cheers...

I totaly agree personaly the other tribes I think are just jealous cause their name wasn't used... being from Devils Lake and from the last graduating class (92) that sucessfuly fought loosing the School name... I can tell you this it's only a matter of time before it's forced to be changed the bitchers will just keep going until it's changed just to shut them up... sad ain't it...
