anyone e-mailing saying it sucks? I am not offended by the irish, but they are fighting too! Fuck that big university and their lawyer, take them all out of post season play or cover their names!Say what? Why would they take them out of post season play......they just can't host post season tournaments

If the slogan was "The would-be fighting Sioux but they are too drunk fight very well" then I can see that being offensive. Thats where I would draw the line.

I think all of this talk is ridiculous. People are offended by ANYTHING, AND EVERYTHING these days. And yeah Brian is right... I don't see their name EVER changing because they will lose the arena if they do.that about sums up my thoughts on this whole thing. people just finding another reason to bitch because they dont have anything else to do.
-
now with listening to why the name is offesive couldnt they just shorten the name to the "souix" and just leave off the "fighting" part, the word souix shouldnt be offesive to anybody i can see why the word fighting in front of it can make it seem like native americans are all violent people
but then again if these people werent bitching about this they would find something else to bitch about

As stated earlier, most of the people bitching aren't even native amaerican WTF. Why should they care if there called the fighting sioux, the only ones who's opinions matter should be the native american themselves and only the sioux at that. These people need to read up on there fuckin' history a bit, why call them the "fighting" sioux.......UM, lets see.......Because they were fuckin' warriors! DUH. The only reason this is an issue is because the person who started it all can't sit down comfortably because of the thick ass wallet in there back pocket. Hey, while we're at it, I find the name Moorehead offensive because it sounds like a sexual enuendo. See doesn't that just sound stupid?

I guess the movement behind the changing of the name is mostly being pushed by those who are not of Sioux heritage.Your right I lived in Devils Lake just a few miles from the largest Souix res in the area and eveyone I know from out their are very proud of the name and most are fans of the sports teams cause of the name.... besides changing the name have you been in the und arena's they have the souix logo built into the building all over it would probably cost a few million to remove all the heads.... even the alerus center with the football contract with UND has souix heads in the floors of the locker rooms
-
on a side note, maybe the reason that some people get so worked up over the "Souix" name, is cuz it was a swear word of the Mandan indian tribe that they gave the "Souix" tribe. the name just stuck and has been used ever sense.

I say quite the post season if they force und to change names, they need the sioux more than und needs them. I love how Ralph engraved the logo on everthing he could just for this situation.
It will cost a pretty pennie to get rid of all of the logo's.the logos are in the granite of the floors, and everywhere. it would be impossible to remove them, let alone cover them up, i dont see any change in the name or anything, und could not afford to lose both the ralph and the betty, which is for basketball and volleyball

I say who gives a shit if they don't like it. There are a lot of things in this world not to like. They should spend time trying to change something significant.
I agree! I was reading the other day on the Fargo Forum website, what a bunch of BS!! There would be some liberal dumbass that would chime in and say something like, blah blah, if one Indian doesn't like it, it must be changed. Bull shit, I don't like a lot of things, but they aren't going to change it for me. I don't like how African's come over here and get huge grants for school, just because they are black. I don't get shit. Same with all other "minorities". I don't see what is disrespectful about naming a team after a group of people and having a nice image of them on everything. It is depicting a strong, brave person, nothing bad. Might as well stop keeping score pretty soon, because too many people get their feelings hurt when they lose!! HA

Thats a large can of worms you just opened there.
-
I agree it is a bunch of BS. As a sioux cheerleader myself this change would kill us budget wise to get all new uniforms which we just bought new last year, plus we would have to change like 75% of our cheers...
but anyways, most native americans I talk to love the name and are proud of it. Like I even heard on the news the other night, the head national indian culture dude said that if the tribes have no problem with the name then the school should be fine to keep it's name. -
Maybe they should change the name to Fighting Sue that way it wouldn't offend the hippie liberal douchebags.
-
LMAO florida got out of it cause the tribe's said they like it now in ND their is a movement on the tribes to ban the souix name it might come down to the spirit lake nation one of only 2 souix tribes in ND LMAO can you say bribe em

this whole arguement is RETARDED! Seriously, Im Irish and I couldn't really give a shit less about the FIghting Irish. Has anyone ever complained about the Vikings? no. How about the Celtics? no. Appearently, it only matters when it is a minority group. Or, maybe its just because they are the only ones that bitch.
Its not like the name of the team is the Red Skins (that one I can see as offensive). I think I will write the fargo forums opinion page and tell them what a bunch of whining pussies they happen to be.
DId anyone read the opinion section in fridays paper that was written by a black person on how offensive a Sioux logo is? Does anyone else think this person does not have a leg to stand on, because they AREN'T FUCKING NATIVE? And I also agree with the point that the only people who CAN bitch about it are people of the Sioux Nation, no other tribes have a say in it. Shit, I used to live in Belcourt (Im not native) and the name of THEIR HS SPORST TEAM is the BRAVES. hyppocracy at its greatest.

I can tell you this it's only a matter of time before it's forced to be changed the bitchers will just keep going until it's changed just to shut them up... sad ain't it...
