So... my car was broken into.

Next time, get an alarm, granted it is only a deterrant, but the less appealing you make the car, the better. Also, make sure to hide anything that looks like it could be valuable, even if it is sunglasses, change in the ashtray, anything like that. I have never had a problem with thieves with my vehicles, the Mustang, or an Escort, because I made the car look unappealing to thieves. They are looking for the quick steal, and if they have to deal with an alarm, or don't see anything of interest, they will move on to the next car.

I'd be willing to bet that I could break into 95% of the cars in this town that have alarms and not set them off....most people don't do enough to protect the alarm from being damaged. I won't go into more detail here as I don't want this to be a "how to break into a car undetected" thread.

I have seen some pretty half-assed alarm installs on cars I've worked on, and I just have to laugh, things like the brain being right under the dash, or things like that. Whenever I install them, I make sure to hide the brain, add shock sensors, and make sure to clean up all the wiring so its not obvious. I never put in motion sensors, since they seem to false alarm more than they're worth.
