For those of you who aren't familiar w/ my plans, I plan on getting a closed deck 2.2 liter block and stroking it to 2.7 liters...then run a t66 or bigger turbo. As previously stated, I need to get some extra $$$$ before I can even think about this. Though I do have a line on a shortblock from a 22B for a reasonable price

sounds like a monster, i cant wait!

regarding the heads...2.5L ej25 heads are SOHC unless you go to the 98RS heads but 98RS engines have headgasket problems...plus im not certain they are aluminum like the DOHC ej20 heads. The ej25 STi heads would be and those are DOHC but harder to find and would cost more. Theres nothing wrong w/ the DOHC ej20 heads...Just send them to COBBtuning and get them ported and polished!

also are these heads going to be used primarily for this project?

If so why source an expensive 2.2 semi closed deck from a 22b when Cobb sells reinforced fully closed 2.5L decks?...then either use ej20 ported and polished heads...possibly check out 22b heads i have a feeling something is different about them that makes them better than 2.2L Legacy Turbo heads, or 2.5L STi heads

        Just a $0.02

The heads are going to be for both projects actually. As for the 22b, lets just say the price is right and I have a cousin in Japan that would ship it for me.

I guess I didn't realize the 22b was semi-closed, I thought it was a full closed deck, you'd know more than I would on that though.

The other option (if the 22b block doesn't work out) is to get an ej22t out of a early 90's twin turbo legacy and build it, as I am "almost" certain that it is fully-closed. Again, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

The main reason I don't go w/ a Cobb built motor is primarily because of the $$$$$ involved with their products. Now, I have no doubts about their abilities to make HP and their attention to detail, but I feel I can get a better overall deal by piecing together the components I want and having it assembled by a local mechanic.

ok thats what i was wondering...the Cobb motor is the way to go but if cost is a big deal then go w/ the 22b, its an STi block so it will be reinforced aluminum. It should be stronger than the Legacy turbo motor...thus making it easier and cheaper to build up! If you can get the heads from the 22b that would be best otherwise ej20 heads will work fine!
