Police Video Camera's
-
From what that article says, the cameras seem pretty cool. They turn on whenever the officer turns it on, turns on the red lights, by microphone, or if the car is hit. Thats a really cool feature. However, I can see a lot being missed because the camera is turned on too late.

keeps the cops more honest too i think. not that the cops are dicks around here but it cuts down on the 'your word against thiers' factor as far as them pushing you around verbally or anything like that. i've personally never been disrespected by the fargo pd, but in other cities i guess the complaints about illegal searches and questionable 'probable cause' and whatnot went down quite a bit.

It can be turned off/on. I would think that they would leave them on. I buy and sell used cop equipment. Most of those camera's record to tape.
According to the acticle they steam video to a wireless server. Im thinking that part might be BS. That would be one hell of a setup. Steaming video from 30 cars. I pretty sure they record just to tape. I will have to do some searching.
Im half and half on this. I dont like being video taped. I dont think anyone does. But hopefull "My buddy in the brown/gold neon gets caught."

The new cameras capture images that will be downloaded wirelessly to a server/storage system at either the police station or the central garage. They can be viewed on a computer and transferred later to CDs for use in court or as training aids. Now lets not turn this into a cop bashing thread. There is enough of the already. These cameras are for everyones benefit, the cameras won't cause you problems unless you are breakin the law.

a lot happens before the cherries tho. I coulda been passing the person before I got my racing ticket with (at high speed). I see benefits to having the slow turn on function as well as the always on.
