so
i am planning to make it to the SPL competition and compete.
any details about how this is being done?
such as class's, mic placement, doors open or closed and so on?as far as entry fee goes. is it the same as the rest? as in do i have to get the wristband and so on and so forth?
just trying to get this straight before i make the trek.

are they actually going to have an SPL comp this year? I coulda swore that Knu Koncepts was either out of business or in SERIOUS financial trouble. Last I heard, he sold his whole inventory to someone else in town...perhaps the new guy is putting on the comp.
Hopefully it is sanctioned so that consistent measurements could take place.
For the record, I think I hold the SPL record @ Devils Run with a 171.8, granted that was 10" from the exhaust of my car, but its still a record!
-
i will be there either way, but the linkage from this thread says there will be an SPL competition. so there better be. if not then they need to remove it.

I can almost guarantee that Knu Konceptz is out of business, I'm betting against the SPL competition.
4th ANNUAL DEVILS RUN
CAR SHOW & ROD RUNNORTH AMERICA'S HOTTEST CAR SHOW, ROD RUN AND BIKE RALLY
This Schedule is Tentative, You will get an up-to-date schedule at registration

any other gamblers on the SPL portion of the event?
as i would rather not make the changes and not have tunes for the trip if there is not going to be an SPL competition. 3 hrs each way with no tunes flying solo sucks.

Knu Konceptz is out of business, they are trying to find another sponsor for the event and may try and get USACi to come up and do a double or triple point event....though this is just speculation at this point.
-
Yes Knu Konceptz is out of business but he does still have his DB meter but we would rather not deal with him on any of it because yeah last year we had some issues. i would like to try get a number togeather of who is all going to be coming this year and what are some events that they would like to see us have. we have talked about getting a DJ and things and if we have enough people that want a Stereo Comp we can either get mikes DB meter and have one, and we are going to talk to a few people about sponcering a comp to have USACI Come again since they did enjoy coming up here. we are trying to make the import part of devils run grow but to do that we need some input on what people like to do and what we can do to make it a good show.
-
The Schedual on the www.greaterdakotaclassics.com web site the guy just uses the previous years schedual and copys it and adds some events but does not really ever remove them unless he is told to do so, and i will talk to him aobut removing the stuff i know forsure we are not having but adding some new stuff that we are going to add.

what about getting MECA to come? as i see they will be in ND in july sometime. i forget if it was minot or where though. they made two visits last summer and i learned of them after they were done.
with MECA you have this cool boom and zoom contest. step to the plate and make your SPL run then drive a few feet forward to the tree and make a 1/4 or 1/8 run. throw those numbers in a formula and you have your score. there is more than just this, but it is a cool idea as many imports talk big and pound big. this gets them to put up or shut up. but can be applied to muscle and just daily cars too. so you may be slow, but if you are loud it should even out.what about checking a NOPI schedule of events to see what is done there? like burnout, hopping, bikini, foam, drag racing, car audio, nopi chicks, hot chicks, not sure if drifting is part of that yet or not, car show...
we noticed at the prime steel show the lack of chicks posing with cars and such. as we had just gotten back from HIN and were loving that part of the show.
i would love to do the stereo thing, but not gonna go through with the time and effort if there are not going to be many doing it.
i will just show up with the crew and hang and enjoy the weekend.Monty

Boom & Zoom....good idea, but no drag strip
Nopi....ND is too small for them to get involved and its way to late in the game to try and have them come up.
The reason you don't see a lot of chicks with cars at shows around here is because we don't generally pay them to hang out on cars like HIN and others do. The girls you saw at HIN were hired by various companies to model. Shell out some cash and they will model in front of your car too.
I don't mean to sound negative, but the above is why things don't/didn't happen
-
i was not saying get NOPI involved. i was saying do things that you might see at a NOPI event. these are things that the tuner scene wants at their shows. correct?
i do not live near devils lake so i so not know what is in or near there, but the boom and zoom is something that could involve all makes of cars and thus be an interesting addition. heck mix it up a little and do an exhaust SPL along with the car show. make it the same such as 3ft behind vehicle at 18" off the ground or whatever works out best to be fair to all. gotta beware of the cost of the mic or sensor (depending on which SPL system is used) to not cause damage to it. either from spikes or liquid or whatever. they are not cheap to replace.
another option that MECA does that is interesting is the DBSO. drive by sound off. sensor is i think 4ft off the ground on a mic stand. you drive by (but cannot stop) playing whatever music you want to (no solid tones) doors, windows however you want. you have the same 30 second limit (i think) and i think you cannot get closer than 6ft to the sensor. this is tough as heck, but they have now started to figure it out and are getting louder all the time.as for the chicks....again i was not implying pay to get them to do it, but what about friends, college girls, (whatever) who like to be the center and show off and so on and so forth. someone has to know girls like that. who would do it just to get the attention. or may a club or whatever that would have girls on hand to get more visitors to the teams cars thus getting more attention to the cars and so on.
there is also the how slow can you go contest. i have seen it with mini's, and bikes, but not cars yet. set a start and finish and see who is the last to cross the line. you have to always move forward. cannot stop. this gets fun to watch with bikes
gotta think outside the norm. be game to try new things. but also think about the rest of the things going on. as i am sure the old folks might not think the same as us young folk do.
the sport compacts already catch alot of flack with the loud exhausts, loud stereos, crazy driving, street racing (though this applys to all who drive a hot ride). earn some respect by going a step above. get involved and not just stand back and wait for it to happen.sorry i got carried away there.
i am sure there are many many things that can be done to draw the sport compacts and still keep the older crowd.

these guys from Milwaukee represented well last year at HIN Chicago. and they have import and domestic side as well as models in the club. they seem to have high standards for all as well as conduct standards are high.

i can say i have met only a few people from this board. and some of them i knew many years before i joined.
so mayb that needs to be something i do this summer. meet and greet more members of fargostreet and tintmasters forums.Monty

its a little too late to get a bunch of stuff on the schedule this year for Devils Run, but I will be contacting Stan about doing a seperate-yet-included import show for 2007 with some of the things you've mentioned above.
-
i understand. i was just spewing forth things as a question was asked.
whether or not they go anywhere is not up to me. i was just inputting things.
i am sure if more thought was put into this more and or better things forthe region might come up.Monty
