Two men died Thursday after their speeding vehicle rolled several times near the 1000 block of First Avenue North in Moorhead.
Moorhead police Sgt. Jim Nielsen identified the driver as a 27-year-old and the passenger as a 54-year-old. The victims’ names are being withheld until today.
The passenger died at the scene. The driver died nearly four hours later at Fargo’s MeritCare Hospital, Nielsen said. He said the crash occurred at 4:16 p.m.
Lt. Bob Larson said witnesses told police the car was traveling at an excess speed east on First Avenue North when it struck a streetlight at the southwest corner of 10th Street and First Avenue North.
The car slid up the pole before rolling four to five times, both end over end and sideways, Larson said. The blue car came to rest upside down midway through the 1000 block of First Avenue North, just south of the eastbound lanes.

Both driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a seat belt, Nielsen said. There were no other injuries or property damage, other than the light pole, Larson said.
Police do not know why the driver was going so fast, Larson said.
Jeff and Marcene Moritz were heading east on First Avenue North Thursday afternoon shortly before the crash, returning to their home in Audubon, Minn., after a day of work at American Crystal Sugar.
Just west of the Eighth Street intersection, Jeff Moritz said he saw a car zooming in and out of traffic in his rear view mirror, going upwards of 60 mph. Moritz swerved right and the speeding car went left.
“It was a close call for everybody out there,” Marcene Moritz said.
A group of employees at Quick Lube & Tire, 1002 1st Ave. N., were standing outside when the accident occurred across the street.
Mike Stensgard – who called 911 after seeing the crash – said the car was probably going 50 to 60 mph when he saw it strike the light pole and roll. A large man flew out of the car while it was rolling, he said. He estimated the car flew 4 to 5 feet in the air.
Doug Stensgard, owner of the shop and Mike’s father, said he was glad no one else was injured.
“It’s scary, just an eerie feeling,” he said.

I never said I wanted to see people get killed did I??
Anyways I heard today from somone that I work with that the guy driving the car was like a friend of his friends or something like that and that it was "SUICIDAL"
Now I am not for sure about that but that is the word that was passed along from someone who knows them. They were suppose to be going to there buddies shop or something and never showed up.
