AutoX

Who here has been involved in organizing events? (BCBlues is, but PMs are off)
I know a few of us have talked a bit about an event locally.....
Had some questions about setting up locations....Many people even be interested if there was an AutoX in the FM area (or say within 5 miles of city limits)?
-
I think that would be sweet, only other ones seem to be 100+ miles away
-
what is autoX?
-
auto cross, like tracks with turns and shit.

This kid at my school was talking about it. This is an email I got from him a while back.
MidWAY Stadium in St. Paul on Oct 9th.
www.SCCLAC.org and Winona on the 10th is at the technical college where they have a gigantic course for some sort of training (or so I hear). Go to www.solo2.org and check out some of their videos. -

(No access to a track...closest I know of is St. Cloud.)
Would have to have either the guys with the Badlands chapter of SCCA, or MNAutoX (not sure if AARRF or LOL-SCCA would do it) come in with their equpment to run the event. ...I'd be willing to bet the Badlands chapter would do it though (did the one in GF) if we were to get a location and people to race.
Just need to know what they need for a location...

An auto cross in the area would be awesome, i have been traveling several hours to get in them now, it would be sweet to have one around here.
Also the SCCA is talking about hosting one in fargo next year.

that would be cool to have one in fargo
-
I agree, if would be a lot of fun to have one here, as much as I like drag racing, AutoX is much more fun to do and watch IMHO.

Yeah, I hoped to travel to one, but I"m afraid of breaking the car....I can trailor it home from Fargo, but any farther is pushing it.
Any idea where they were talking about hosting one at?

The dome was talked about at one point in time, but I think the cost to rent the parking lot was crazy. Are the fairgrounds in W Fargo paved (like the mid-way area where the rides are)? That might be big enough to pull off an event.
I tell you what, when I win the powerball jackpot I'll build a track here, ok?
-
Ok, I lied, if I win the powerball I'm going someplace warmer to build a track....

sounds good!
Yeah, what little I have heard about the dome all consists of outrageous prices.
Faigrounds was one idea I started looking in to...
I was looking at satellite images for the Fairgrounds (yes, I"m a loser like that) and all of the mid-way area is paved IIRC...and looks plenty big for an AutoX (with parking next to buildings and such)Also thinking about the Moorhead Airport. They've got 2 runways and only run (listed) 77 aircraft/week...looks like a good bit of additional paved area as well. They host the wings and wheels show out there, so this might be a possibility...

What about the Mall? Team up with Sears or something. It would be smaller course but designed right it could be fun.mall is open 7 days a week. I highly doubt any part of the mall would shut down a large enough section of parking lot for an AutoX....not to mention the amount of "crap" in many of those parking lots (needs to be free of curbs and light poles preferably)

We do not have a date yet. But we are having an event in the Fargo Dome lot. The badlands SCCA asked be if I would sponsor the lot so they could have the event. Of course! So we will be having atleast one in Fargo and one in Grand Forks for 2005. And sorry I didn't say anything earlier, I was going to post it over our long boring winter. To give everyone something to chear about. And see now you made me ruin it.
