i second this one. my AC takes quite a long time to get semi cold. and it was only 85-90 this weekend.

Your probably looking at around $65-90 per pound of R-12, your better off just converting it. Currently, R134-a is going around $20 per lb.

The proper conversion involves removing all the O-rings and replacing them with the right ones, replacing Oriface tube if equiped, replacing accumulator/receiver dryer, and replacing the original AC oil in the system. This way is very spendy.....but the "red neck/back woods" way is just to evac the system, install the fittings, vacuum the system for a good 15min to 30min, and then fill with appropriate level of freon. This way is just to get "by" and isn't ment for vehicles with major leaks as they will leak freon quickly. The last one that we did ran only $160, but there were no guarantees. The proper way is to replace things and get it done right. It wont be long before R-12 isn't available at all, R134-a is next in line for the phase out within the next few years.

P.S. the proper way will run approx $400-1100, depending on parts called for replacing and availability/cost of the parts. I can get you an approx quote of what it will run, but we dont carry R-12 at the shop due to the cost of it and that 95% of vehicles have already be converted.
