Powerglide is lighter, takes less power to turn, Same price to build (check www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com), for most 4G63 use...won't need any building at all and honestly.....do you really think that a 4G63 can ever make enough torque to blow up a PG? The powerglide is behind many 2000+ V8s that produce over 1200-1500ft lbs of torque. The powerglide is actually stronger due to the less gearing, larger shafts, etc. The ONLY advantage to using a TH350 is the 3rd gear. But....that 3rd gear is a very tall gear. Mighty Mouse (Buschur's old car) tried running a TH350 in his RWD and could never muster better than a 10.3x. Switched to a powerglide and now run's mid 9's all day long W/O NOS.

I wouldnt build any tranny to hold up to the power as much as making it better between shifts. Building it up persay makes it more efficient and also decreases it's power consumption. So leaving any tranny stock is foolish. Ask Dave H. with 600 or so whp if he would put a non built trans in his car or just take a stocker and throw in a shift kit or a manual valve body. Remember that kevin's also pushin over 500whp. at least he was last time I checked. I know that torque is the big killing factor on most trannys but his torque numbers were pretty respectale too. Comparable to a decently built V8. And I would probably be safe in assuming he's got more up his sleave for this build. Just my 2 cents.

Kevin's car actually was just a little over 400WHP last time he was on the dyno. But as far as I know he has sold a bunch of parts in order to go bigger and better, so we should see some bigger numbers next summer. Well, assuming that his RWD project actually works! j/k Alien, I have faith in you.

I'm sure Kevin plans on building the tranny up, it really doesn't cost much. $1000 in parts and $100 for assembly is what mine cost... and it should tolerate a lot. Also, my car is around 710-720 whp now, based on HP calculators (9.46 @ 143mph 3100lb) 🙂

I dyno'd early in the year at low boost when the ignition would break up over ~6000 rpm. It made 596rwhp on turbo only, and 615 with spray. It doesn't pay to dyno now, as I'm changing the head over the winter and I'll have to re-tune for that.

Check out Jeg's and Summit for ready to go trannies. For just over a grand, you have a nicely built tranny, manual valve body, race clutches, etc. Plus the fact you get to choose your gearing and a warranty. Throw in a converter, bulid an adapter plate, etc.....you're set.
