I have been thinkin about it for sometime now and I wouldn't mind having a motorcycle. I like the crotch rockets, but have never ridden one before, all I have ever ridden are old harley's.

So I was wondering how difficult they are to ride and handle and what to look for for a first bike. I really don't want something fast, just something to cruise on. I am not even sure where to start looking nor what to look at. I want something fairly cheap so incase I decide I don't like it or mess it up.

Any ideas, or should I just stick to 4 wheels.

Crotch rockets are very unconfortable they are made for speed. Im guessing you probably wouldnt like a goldwing? Those are more a old fart ride there up to 1800cc now?. Three wheel goldwings are kinda cool to me. I saw one down by the twin cities putting the hurt on two dirt bikes that was sweet.

anyway if you have 40k you could by this

I wanted a crotch rocket for a long time and also never rode a bike before. I finally decided to get one. 2006 kawasaki ninja 250 easy to ride, good learner/beginner bike and very cheap insurance. total cost was 3600 with a extended 3 year warranty. Its not a fast bike but its fun for just cruising around town.

there not too bad for comfort unless you do like I did the other day and took it on a 160 mile trip. had to stop and stretch a few times, other then that there pretty comfortable.

If you really want to learn to ride, get something small cc and cheap out of the classifieds in the paper, by small I mean under 500cc. After you learn to ride get rid of it and get what you want.

I have been riding for over 20 years and when people say to me that they are thinking about getting something to ride and ask what they should get I tell them the exact same thing. What they do is go and get the most expensive largest cc bike that they can't afford. After 2 months they sell it and give up after dropping it on the ground a dozen times.

01neonrt got it right, PERFECT learner.

If you want a bike because you think riding one might be cool then don't even bother. You gotta WANT to ride, it's an addiction.

I learned to ride on my dads old honda 750 back in high school. Then 2 years ago, I picked up my first bike...a cbr 600 F3. At first, I was scared shitless to go full throttle (and its only a 600!) but after awhile I got used to it. Took a couple months. Now I absolutly love it. I would hightly recommend NOT getting anything above a 600 if you do go the crotch rocket route. Just have the patience to wait until your used to it so you dont kill yourself.

01neonrt, you think 160 is a long trip? Try going 375!

Well thanks guys, I have been looking at the Ninja 250's and I think that may be the route to go. I like the style, it isn't too fast, and its actually affordable. Now I just gotta keep a lookout to find a diecent used one that I could beat on and not feel bad about. I'd really love to get a Harley, but I can't see spending that much money, but ya.

So when looking at a used bike, what should I look at and all. Whats the life on these things, avarage miles, etc...

look for indication that it has been droped. If it has been set down or droped while parked, it shouldnt hurt anything, but droped fast could cause serious problems. Look at the chain and the sprockets, look at the tires and rims. That should be a good start. Check to see if the oil is leaking, check the oil level if you want. Make sure the blinkers and brights work, make sure it sounds ok. A little backfire when you let off the throttle is fine, but alot could mean something is wrong.
