you were mistaken...some have 5spds

Theres actually quite a bit of GA GT 5spds. I didnt know it until I was in my moms truck and the GA next to me started rolling back at a stoplight and when I looked in the car he was shifting to first!!

ya it's a 5-spd not sure if it's worth a new clutch though either gonna go all out on it or beat it to the ground either way just gonna have fun with itit's also the 2.4 not the v-6 but kinda peppy wouldn't mind taking it to the track to see what it would do any ideas from you guys........stock motor ok clutch and good tires (potenzas) i'd definately pull the stereo out first though

The 2.4 quad (assuming that's the motor in there) is kind of an engineering fiasco on Gm's part, Some people swear by them, but From my experiences, the motors aren't the greatest. If you want cheap go fast, get Nitrous. If you really want to be unique you could try to build your own turbo kit, but without much aftermarket support, thewre will be a lot of custom fab and a lot of time involved. Bottom line: You will be spending a lot of money to make your car fast... I'de say get an intake exhaust, good clutch and some really good rubber, and practice your driving skills... -
Would low 16s be respectable for stock? What would that compare to as another stock vehicle any ideas? Just to get a baseline not sure if this is the vehicle I want to deal with for much longer only bought it to be a winter beater and I was surprised by the combination of power, comfort and driveability not to bad for a pontiac

You might be faster because you have the 5spd, but "respectable" isn't a word I would use with a stock 5spd GA GT 4cyl. The 2.4s are "ok" motors but I would never play with one. Figure out a swap with an ECOTEC from the newer Cavi's and GA's. It's probably the most worthwhile motor you could put in your car. If you really want, check out www.l67swap.com. I don't know how easy it is to put an L67(Supercharged GTP motor) in an older GA but Brian would be able to help ya out.

OK, then do this.
