the hd channels are alright, unless you get hbo or watch alot of sports you probably won't use them much, although conan obrien in HD is way better for some strange reason. PBS in hd is pretty cool, as some of the shows about wildlife and stuff look amazing in HD. ESPN is good although you might want to keep it in 720p as stuff with alot of movement on the screen at the same time tends to be a little jerky sometimes in 1080i. overall i'd say i could do without the hd channels as i use the hd more for the xbox360 than anything, but if you don't have a DVR right now, once you get it you will NEVER go back. Dvr is awesome as hell, especially with 2 tuners.

cableone FTL. Get DirectTV. The HD channels are great and my over the air antenna gets the local HD's too (NBC, Fox, etc...). Hockey in HD and Football in HD is the shit. Less than $50 a month for 2 receivers. Troy - if you want to sample it, you can check it out at my place on my tube or lcd hd tv's....

This is EXACTLY the type of info I'm looking for! Thanks a bunch. So the Direct TV picks up the locals in HD? Or do you have a seperate off air antenna for that? Less than $50/month w/ 2 receivers sounds good to me!!

Direct TV will give you the local channels in standard def via their satellite, but the local HD channels are via an antenna. The antenna I'm using is just set up in my bdrm, but I could wire it up in my attic i guess.

If you go w/ satellite, the choice is either Direct TV or Dish. I prefer Direct TV b/c they have the channel that carries NHL hockey the most (HD.net channel carries some games each yr tho, and you can get that w/ either satellite provider). Today Dish has more HD channels, but the diffferent ones they have aren't that great. In the long run, Direct TV will have more HD - they're launching a ton of satellites just for that purpose.

Just double checked - $63.97 a month for a ton of channels, the HD pacakge and 2 receivers. Sorry about the misquote earlier....

Do the DirecTV receivers have a built in tuner to pick up the local HD channels?

Fitzy - not sure I understand what that means, but I can plug the extra over the air antenna into the back of the hd receiver and it "works"... sorry, you Team guys know more than me on how it actuall works 😉

Here's the antenna I use for the local HD channels

Fox has been HD for a while. FSN used to have all the minnesota games in HD....but for the last couple months its been off the air.

I am going to assume that the receiver does have an off air tuner built into it then to pick up the local HD channels. Cause if I recall Troys TV does not have the built in HD tuner

Well my next dilemma is I need 5 rooms hooked up and it looks like with either satellite service, you can only do 4. I guess the nice thing about Cable One is that there's no need for a receiver in each room, you can get basic cable just by plugging into the wall. And no my TV doesn't have an HD tuner in it.
