Problems with work, legal help...
-
I'm having troubles at work getting money that is owed to me.
I manage an optical center. When I was first hired, I was promised xxx amount of money, but my pay is less than whay I was promised. Plus, I was promised monthly bonuses right off the bat. I caught the mistake right away for my pay, and have waited 4 months to be compensated. I contacted my regional manager after every pay period and have been told it it was taken care of. His fix is to bump my pay up to double the aount of what I a owed for 4 months, then taking it back down after that 4 month period is over instead of cutting me a check. Like, say I am supposed to get paid 15 cents and hour, but have only been getting paid 10 cents an hour. It will be bumped up to 20 cents an hour for the time I have been underpaid, and then borught down to 15 cents per hour. So it will take a total of 8 months till I a caught up on pay.
Isn't that illegal?
I also havn't received any of my bonus's. My regional manager told me it was because it takes about 3 months for bonus's to kick in, which is BS, because my GF manages the same store under the same title in the same terretory and got her bonus's right away. Well, I called my territory dirrector, and apparently I am not listed as the manager in there papaerwork, even thought that is what I was hired under, and I a the manager of the store. He said he will try and straighten this out, but my question is this. I think they are going to be real sticklers for the 3 months that our store has bonused, and I wasn't awarded the bonus's (close to $1,500). What can I do to make sure I get this oney back.
I want one check, and everything fixed. Is there anything I can do from a legal stand point to get this fixed? Any tips on how to get the money that is rightfully mine?
Does anyone know of a place locally who I can talk to locally, like a lawyer who will do a free consultation, or somewhere I can go to find information to help me?

Yup, just contact Lisa McEvers @ the labor commissioners office at 1-800-582-8032. Oh, and JCC, I haven't said anything prior to this cuz I hadn't been on in a while.

yup, state labor commish- I went through that when I went to college @ NDSU. Be careful though, because you may find yourself jobless for some totally unrelated incident (funny how that works, huh?) You are way better off dealing with it internally (which it sounds like you have) call the labor office and tell them what is going on, but leave the business name out of it for now (if possible). Sometimes they won't deal with you until you have it on paper with names of the accussed, etc. Good luck
