Got a speeding ticket today....
-
So we drive cross country going 85-90 the entire way and do not get a speeding ticket. The next day I am going 83 on I-94 and I get pulled over between I-29 and 45th street. $49 ticket isnt bad though, thank god I was not in Minnesota. I think I need a radar detector....any suggestions?

ya, dont speed....honestly, they aren't worth it especially in MN since they'll ticket ya on it. I really dont find a reason to be doing more than 10 over limit. in town (unless heavily driven high speed roads) 5 over is just fine. If you think about it, doing that extra 5-10 on top of the 5-10 that most do isn't much of a time difference. 83 in a 55 is a big speed difference but your time difference wont be too much. stick with 60-65 at most and the HP and Cops will leave you alone. and if you think about it, spending $200+ is much more than your ticket you got and if you only get one every 5+ years then it isn't worth it. Now if you get them all the time, then you really need to slow down.

escort passport 8500. I love mine, however its a bit big.
Also, you won't get ticketed in MN for a radar detector. They are legal, however radar jammers are not. I suppose they could get you for having and item blocking vision, or what ever they call it in fancy terms. I have never gotten a ticket for one.

radar jammers are illegal in the USA period. I believe only Vermont and maybe 2 other states (not MN) have made radar detectors illegal.
For the most part they are worthless anyways. You might get lucky if you're on a road where there is a ton of traffic and it'll let you know that a cop is up ahead checking people...if you're alone though by the time it goes off it already means you've been clocked and you're effed.

You won't get ticketed, but if you do get pulled over for speeding the cop is probably going to be a lot less leinient if you have a radar detector. -

We were riding around in a friends car that was an old police cruiser, still had the white/black painting scheme and the side lights so it looked legit. We were just driving and watching how people slammed on their brakes and would all look back at us and stuff trying to figure out if we were cops. It'd be damn easy to see someone take their radar detector off and try hide it, and in the process would also lead to some questioning as to what they're hiding and a search of the vehicle.
