Ok, to answer this for John, yes, they can handle a line driver, however a line driver WILL NOT IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM "up the watts" of any amplifier. Sure, it has the potential to make it play louder, but there are design limits on amplifier circuits. The reason for line drivers is to provide a cleaner, stronger signal to send the amp so that you can turn the gains DOWN on the amp. To say that adding a line driver to your setup will increase the output wattage is like saying that parking closer to a radio tower will make your cd player put out more wattage while listening to the radio.

Sorry (really I am) John for semi-whoring this thread. Just correcting misinformation.... Free bump, good luck with sale.

thanks...prolly answered that question better than i could have anyways....bump...amps are cheap but work great!

Again, not to whore anyones thread here, but the specs on the amp are as follows: Take from the Phoenix Gold website

OCTANE-R 2.0:1

• High efficiency Class "AB" monoblock amplifier
• 18dB variable LP crossover
• 18dB variable subsonic filter
• Low Pass Level port (LPL)
• Dimensions: 11.75L x 10.875W x 2.25H

200W x 1 (2 ohm mono)
max power

And it is only rated to 2 ohms.

Realistically the amp will do 140WRMS @ 2 ohms.

Still a great price for the amps.

info is true...but look at those old Phoenix gold amps you have...what are they rated at like 60 watts rms or max?

2.4 x 2 watts RMS (MPS-2240)
75x2 Watts RMS (MS-275)
5x2 watts RMS (MPS-2500)

Those are/were the official IASCA RMS ratings back in the day. The 2.4 watt amp would continuosly push out ~635 watts rms however.

This was before the era of CEA ratings when nearly all of the players in the competition scene had "cheater" amplifiers that would be rated at 10 volt power voltage @ 4 ohms, but when you bumped up the power voltage to 15 volts and dropped the load to .5 ohms mono/.25 ohm stereo the output would be huge. And yes, they were rated to run at this much load. Their ad back in the day (when they still knew how to make amps) used to say "Powerful enough to drive nails". Back then, those amps could (and occassionally did) be used to weld with....literally. Their new amps are NOWHERE near the power monsters of what they had back then, especially not the Octane series.

These amps, as stated earlier, will produce ~140 watts RMS as their power supplies are now strictly regulated with overload protection below 2 ohm loads.

Again, still a great price for the amps though. There is nothing wrong with a true 140 watt RMS amplifier.

well i dunno...they powered my bmf's which are 600 watts a piece pretty well and they never even got hot...

I also have a 8.0.1 octane R series amp that powers a 15" crossfire bmf and doesnt have a problem powering that either.

anyways...the amps are good...and cheap!

I agree, they are good amps. I have the 5 channel octane-r amp in my car and it does a nice job. I would not hesitate to use these amps in a sub setup. I just wanted to clarify the original post.
