It was a grim day
-
at 2:42 December 31st, 2006, my girlfriend sister and I crashed into a light pole on 34th st near the meadows golf course. It was a complete freak accident (thanks to Moorhead for not clearing up the streets) because I was going well under the speed limit and driving with the flow of traffic. As I took a right curve in the left lane, my back tires hit a patch of ice and fish tails sideways with the driver side facing the light pole. the odd thing was I was calm and collected and i tried to feather the gas and clutch to come out of the slide, but my wheels completely lost grip. Anyways I was lucky it was a wooden pole for the Light pole completely knocked over from the impact. If it were a metal pole, I would have been severely hurt for the impact of the pole was in line to where I was sitting. The stupid thing is the police man still gave me a ticket for driving excessively fast for given conditions. also, do you think i have to pay for the light pole as well?

what were the posted limits???
-
40 and i was going 30-35

oh yeah and since I have to come back for my court date next month, I have to fly back from Chicago for it and miss school. That really sucks thats another 150 bucks out of my pocket. Any other ways to get out of it?
-
i believe if you can prove that it was not your fault and that you were travelling under the speed limit and it was the road conditions that caused it they may forget about it im not sure
-
what do you think about me completely clearing the pole, will i have to pay for that? It came clean off
-
first off what were you driving???
-
acura rsx type s
-
:icon_scratch: im not exactly sure what they are going to do... does anyone else know minnesota law better???
-
It doesn't matter what the speed limit was you were driving to fast for the conditions. Theres no way out of that ticket.
You will have to pay for any property damage you caused. Do you have full coverage and are you filing a claim?

My mom just got home and was telling me about how shitty 34th was...crazy shit man. As for insurance and paying up you're probably screwed. I think it's stupid that you still got an excessively driving ticket since there is no real way to know how fast you should be going and going less than 30 is too slow for anybody that isn't mentally handicapped. Good Luck!

ok 14 grand joel...

If you were driving your car beyond your abilities and/or were driving too fast for the conditions (speed limit is only relative to a perfect driving condition) you are at fault. Sorry, you will lose in court because at least one of the two above scenarios are true.
-
so i should plead guilty. guilty with explanation? is there anyway that I do not have to show up in court? on the ticket it says I have to but I live and go to school in Chicago.
-
as far as the damage, do you think its repairable?
-
plead not guilty....theres no way they can prove you were driving stupid..unless there was a witness saying you did....which you didnt state there was.
as far as damage....the rear 1/4 is pretty messed up and krinkled and everything else....they'll probably total it out.
