so im trying to piece together a "hybrid" motor since i cannot find a z6 block anywhere. i found a y7 block that i think should work with my z6 head. my question is how much z6 stuff is interchangeable with the y7, can i use z6 pistons in a y7 block? is the z6 crank the same as the y7? i will be using my z6 crank. is there any problems that i might run into that im overlooking right now?
i know there is something wierd about the arp headstuds when you use this combo but i have both z6 and y7 studs so i should be under control right?
i put this setup into a compression calculator with a y7 block, z6 head, a y7 head gasket, z6 pistons, and stock z6 piston to deck height(which is the same as the y7) and i get about 8.9 compression.
now i dont think i have ever found stock compression forged pistons for the
z6. is 8.9 going to enough if i do find them? is there a better way to do this motor with this block?i know its kinda alot of questions but answer what you can please.

Ok for one the y8 and the y7 blocks are the same... the only think that is different is the head. go ahead and use the z6 crank as it will work. also if you match the head studs to the head you will be using everything will be ok.
I thinkl you used the worng head gasket if i'm not misstaken the y7 uses a paper gasket unless honda started using the 3 layer metal gaskets on all there d series from 96+....:icon_scratch:
also for future reference use a STOCK honda head gasket.......:rolleyes:

lol stock HG for sure, im not sure what HG's are metal and what ones arent, im assuming the y7 is paper because its alot thinner but with say a z6 or a y8 HG my compression ratio is like 8.3 or something ridiculous. im looking for right around 9.1
ill check it again with the diffrent HG's

As far as the headstuds go, IIRC you will use all Y7 studs except 1, i don't remember which one it is but you should be able to figure it out when you go to assemble it. You will use 1 z6 headstud for that.
Im not positive but i think that everything will go right into the Y7 block no prob. I would do a new oil pump(d16Y blocks have oil pump problems when strained), and look up online cuz there is a mod you can do to make it better, i don't remember it.

ok so i rechecked it and with a z6 HG my compression is exactly 9.1 but thats with std. pistons not dished ones. i still dont know where to get a "std." stlye piston but forged, i was going with wiseco but it doesnt look like they have any?

Y7 and y8 blocks are the same, except that y8 block has a knock sensor.
You need to use 1 z6 headstud
