i dont think it matters where you are... a young kid driving a car that the average american cannot afford is going to draw attention, equipment violations or not
-
Honestly, it doesn't matter what kind of car you drive in St.Paul, as long as you look asian, you are pretty much fucked.

I just can't buy that you are "profiled hard down here" because you're asian, or driving a BMW. Made me "lol" though.

I got pulled over yesterday by detroit lakes for doing 70 in a 55....cop asked me if i ever had gotten ticketed for my tint, i told him no becuase it was legal in ND and told him i lived in fargo and my car was registered in fargo.. He still said it was illegal because i was in MN. So i asked him if i should take it off everytime i come over mn and he never said another word......stupid cop.

Nah, i don't mean it to be a dick, but its hard to believe if you haven't experienced it..Reason I grabbed on to your statement is that I have a friend who is into BMWs and is asian. He seems to have no problems. Just seemed kind of ironic. I don't mean to be a dick either.
If you go to Uni or whatever, they are very very strict on equipment violations, especially tint and front plates. The St. Paul police are dicks to everyone, trust me. They would rather spend their time with equipment violation tickets than go a few blocks away and deal with real crime. I haven't gone there for a couple of years now, got tired of dealing with the hassle, and my car's 100% legal.

It happened alot this summer with both cars, maybe more so w/ the mercedes.
I'm sure it depends on where you are and stuff too, but it's happened to me quiet a few times.
However, i"ll be the first to admit that it'd be 10x worse if i were driving a dropped honda civic hatchback with a fart can... damn even I think those sideways hat wearing people look suspicious

The reason it doesn't happen to your mom is because who is really going to have the "extra" over and above the traffic stop, a 50 year old lady, or a 16-25 yr old? Think about it. It just makes sense.
