i'd skip the 8000K HIDs. 4300 (4600?) gives you the best candlepower/watt, is most like daylight illumination, and is what factory-HID cars come with for a reason. 6k is enough to "set you apart" while still not screwing your light output.

8k is just silly. You'll succeed in pissing off other drivers and not being able to see as well as you otherwise would.

Also, don't do an HID kit at all unless they are factory made HID housings. Check out http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html for why not.

he already has hid projector housings.....and 4300-4600 is just silly.....8000k is where its at..bright...and gives out a nice color...

8000k is where its at. those others are bright but 8000k will give you the blue/violet color of HID all the time without the expensive retro fit projectors.

those colors only come from the prizm effect of the projectors when used with a 4300K setup and cheapy ones like we have cant really do that the best. the projectors we have are in no way meant for HID setups but they will cutoff the light better than stock reflector housings. it wont be as sharp and focused like the expensive ones so the color doesnt always comeout like we would want. i say if you want good HID color go at least 8K.

someone correct me if im wrong but from what ive read that sounds right.

This thread makes me sad. Did nobody read the link i sent earlier? There's a lot of fantastic information on that site, and that guy has been doing what he does (automotive lighting) for years and years. You can ask him any question you like - he's very knowledgable and responsive.

                1. Projector housings != HID housings. You can have a projector style optical housing that still isn't fit for HID use. I can show anyone that's interested the Euro H4 projector headlights on my audi which are NOT hid housings.

As pointed out in the link, the bulb mounting point and beam optics are intrinsically linked. Just because you have projector optics doesn't mean they're necessarily setup for HID. If the guy is already 100% setup for HID then isn't this just a bulb change? If what he's doing is more involved than changing a bulb, (i.e. adding HID ignitors, etc) then the conversion will be sub optimal, for all of the reasons described in the link i sent earlier.

                1. light intensity and optical resolution goes down with color temperature over 6000k. 8000k HIDs are less safe than 6000k ones. They are a lower performing part than a 6000k bulb.

If your goal is to just have the headlights look a crazy color when oncoming traffic sees you, use a normal bulb type for your car with a colored coating on it. These also reduce light output (just like a high-temp HID does), but the pattern and what not will be correct for your housings, and it willl be way cheaper than an HID retrofit with ballasts and all that business.

I apologize in advance if i am misunderstanding things.

Yes....HIDs are not a new thing....im prettty sure everyone knows all about them and there has been numberous threads about retrofitting...and the difference in HID projector housings and non HID projectors...but shanes projectors are for HID's.....and yes...we all know..the more Kelvins...the darker the color! we are not we todd did.

i sure see a hell of a lot better with my 8K's compared to the stock halogens. you dont have to have projector housings to be fit for hid use. see stock housings in escalades, envoys, acura TL/CL, Lincoln Cont. they are not projectors, just designed with a different cut-off compared to regular housings.

imho, anything higher than 8K is rediculous and should only be for show use only. lower than 4300K should be for fogs due to the yellower color. 4600-6000K is ideal due to the whiter light, but you'll have a bluer light at 8K. Yes i could be seeing better at those color temps, but i am 100% happy with my 8's. everyone will have to see their housings with different temps to determine which is best for them.
