If Kerry is elected, will we get discounts on Heinz ketchup as a tax rebate? 😛

Except the voting record stuff....kinda hard to dispute some of that vote-smart.org keeps track of all candidates on this matter. I posted a link at the bottom of the 47 reasons to vote kerry portion of this post.

You know what bugs me the most about this thread? The fact that there are 197 people on this site and only 31 have shown any interest in taking the poll. I know some are too young to vote but for those that are old enough geez, go and vote! I don't care who you vote for, just vote. I know that by voting for Kerry in ND I am essentially wasting my vote as he has no real chance of winning this state, but if everyone that has that attitude isn't voting for that reason, the results might in fact change. At least voting gives me the right to complain about whats going on, by not voting you are essentially saying "I don't care, do what you want w/ me and this country, it won't affect me anyway"....ok...I am rambling on and on here. I just hope more of us make it out to vote on November 2nd than responded to my poll.

that's fine, I can live with it IF he doesn't, but can you live with it if he does?

Personally I'd love to see Kerry win the electoral and not the popular just to see if congress decides to get rid of the electoral college. Well, I take that back, I'd LIKE to see Kerry win every state, but I know that's not gonna happen. It should be a good tight election, right down to the last state.

I dont get it. You know back earlier during the democatic primaries when they eliminated democrat hopefull after hopefull...how the hell do they all just settle down and decide to support kerry if they were previously pulling for say edwards dean etc. it just seems they all just forgot all about them bashing eachother to become the democratic candidate and are all of sudden like buddy buddy.

it happens on both sides of the aisle, during the republican convention of 2000 Bush ripped McCain's war record to no end as well. Now McCain is stumping for the guy... Go figure. The thing that got Kerry over in a lot of Dems minds was that he primarily focused his attack on the President and not his running mates. I know he took some shots at a few of them as well, but that is kinda the nature of the beast.

I disagree with the sentiment on everyone getting out to vote. If people don't spend the time to learn the issues and the candidates positions then I'd rather they just stay home. Otherwise they will just be voting based on which candidate looks better, soundbites, etc.

I agree that the electoral college needs to go. There was a time when it was needed/useful, but that time is gone.

and yet on a recent survey, over 35% of the general public polled didn't even know each canidates policy on even 2/10 topics ranging from health care, social security, economy, war, etc. People are not educated, people are not well in form of the views, and therefore the general public should not be able to decide as a mass. This is not a democracy, this is a republic. The whole foundation was not for people to decide on a general popular vote or a mass decision, but to merely have representation. Which even in electoral form, they have that. Combined with the House/Senate rules of engagement, the represenation implementation is successfull.

BTW: Did you guys check out the new voting system in florida? 🙂

                        http://media.ebaumsworld.com/index.php?e=floridavoting.wmv

The electoral system won't go away, trust me on this. Too much time and money invested in it, if we take that away many other forms of consitutional rights may be under fire.

Yes, we are a republic which means the popular vote elects representatives, and the representatives decide how to vote for actual legislature, bills, etc (since the people can't be on top of all the legislation, rules, decisions). But I believe popular vote should elect ALL officials (congressmen, governors, representatives, and President).

I plan to vote for Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian party. I don't even know if he will be on the ND ballots, but I don't like how our country will likely be run under either Bush or Kerry. The Libertarian party is about personal freedoms, and we could certainly use someone in power who can give those back to us.

Maybe I should have been more clear, people should educate themselves (even spending an hour a week for 4 weeks leading up to the elections, studying both sides would be a good start) and then vote. Unfortunately, many people make elections into a one topic deal, meaning, for example, the only reason they vote for Bush is because he is pro-life or the only reason they vote for Kerry is because Bush can't complete an intelligent sentence.

I saw the police/security, we were working on campus today. Got asked twice by SS what the hell I had in my hand (an extendable stick that we use for testing fire alarms w/ a heat generator on the end....was pretty sure I would have been shot if I would have been a smartass....)

My job is tough though...carry a stick, set off smoke detectors, evacuate buildings (oops), and drive to next site. And get paid pretty well IMHO.
