So ya, my day was going just great until I get a call from the fargo police aroung 11:30, The officer proceeds to tell me that a car I just brought over to the salvage auction monday has been impounded for evidence. I am like WTF is going on, and he says well there is some stolen parts on it that were taken off a car at a salvage yard back in March. Then he says, where did you get them, and I tell him I baught them off a guy in April. Then the cop says bullshit, you stole them. I am thinking who does this cop think he is, so I ask whats the proof, he says well there is strong proof that these are their parts, but will not tell me what it is or how the hell my car was even dragged into this. So I said I would call him back later and now I am left clueless on what to do. Obviously this guy is a jackass and already thinks I am guilty.

Now I know I baught the parts, because I remember giving $500 to get them. Damned if I can remeber the guys name though. He stopped by back in march some time and was looking at I car I had. He saw I had a few wrecked cars and said he had some parts laying around I could buy from him. I say cool, because his prices were much better than what I would have to pay new or even good used ones from the salvage yard. Well I give him my card and he calls me back a few weeks later wondering if i still need them, I say yep, and we agree he can drop them off that weekend. So he comes I buy the parts and all is said and done, I put them on the car and I have yet to ever soo the guy again. I am not sure of his name anymroe because I suck at remembering that stuff and never did write up a bill of sale because I don't usually do that on parts.

So what the hell do I do, I seriously got them for a guy I didn't know but how do I prove this, I am fucking freaking out, because shit is going great for me and I am getting married in a few months and now this.

I am going to call 7th ave salvage directly and see if I can find out whats going on though.

check back through your phone records to get the guys number. most cell phone companies will provide you wiht a few months of back records. I can go on Tmobile.com and look at mine, up to 3 months ago, no problem.

EDIT: otherwise, you are screwed. Posession of stolen property is a crime, even if you had no knowledge of said property being stolen. If the price was too good to be true, well, you know why now.

Well I called around a little. Called 7th ave salvage first, apparently someone has been stealing their chevy truck parts, they had a bunch of them stolen and the ower just wants to get them back or get paid.

Talked to the cop, told him all I knew, I know the guy I baught them from had a black chevy truck and went by dan or something similar and he said he wasn't from town, and I only met him because he stopped to look at a car I had for sale, when he was in the area.

I checked my phone records, not sure of the extact date he called me, but around that time within 4 days I recieved over 100 calls, almost all of them have phne numbers, few were pay phones and some unavailable. So I am not sure where to start.

How do they know the parts are the same ones that got stolen, one fender is the same as another isn't it?? How would they go about proving it. One time I bought a used box side from seventh avenue and it wasn't even in their computer. They didn't even know they had it. Good luck and hope you don't get in trouble.

More then likely that stuff was stolen so your out of luck. If a deal is to good to be true then its stolen. I hope things go your way but your dealing with the fpd.

If you worried about getting married you shouldnt get married. I seen acouple of your posts. To me this whole thing looks like a divorce in acouple of years. Dont take that the wrong way. I wish you lots luck on it! If I were you I would hold out for a year or two before getting hitched.

LOL, well actually I was wanting to get married, isn't a bad thing. Its just this is a innconvience.

I figured out the evidence though, 7th ave got a white truck on a saturday, and then the next monday when they came in it had been stripped. Well I just so happened to buy a 2 white doors and 2 white fenders from someone, and this guy says they came from his truck. His proof is, the pinstripes line up, but didn't all these trucks have those, and the doors and fenders have stailless rocker trim like half the other chevy trucks in town.

What I have to do now is prove I own the parts, they think the parts are his because they match the discription that their his, but there are no serial numbers or vins to prove it.

Now here is the kicker, I brought my truck to be sold at Fargo Salvage brokers, whick is just down the road from 7th ave salvage. They (7th ave salvage) also buy and sell a lot of cars through fargo salvage brokers, I know this because I know the owners and also have baught a few of 7th ave's cars from there. So why would I bring a vehicle with stolen parts on it to a place where the salvage yard would 100% definatly see it. Just does not make sense.

Another thing is I buy around 2-3K worth of parts from 7th ave salvage a year, they are the guy I check with first when I need something. I know most of the employees on a first name basis and they know me.

So geez, if you add it all up, nothing really makes sense.

Also people have been saying that I should have questioned the parts since I paid $500 for them. Well I think that was a reasonable price. Same parts I would have paid maybe 700-800 from 7th ave salvage. But the parts wern't perfect, fenders needed rust fixed, doors had some dents, headlights were aftermarket non-gm parts and the grill had a crack in it. Seemed reasoanble for $500. I was planning to fix the truck for myself and use it for a tow truck, so the condition didn't matter too much just as long as they looked halfway diecent. But since I have been strapped for money lately I had to sell it to pay bills and give me extra cash is I needed it.

I would not worry about it. If you did not know it was stolen I dont see how they can hold you responsible. If thats so and I buy somthing stolen on Ebay I am in trouble..? How can I be in trouble for buying somthing off Ebay thats stolen? How is one to know if it is stolen...? I hate theives but people purchasing goods from one person should not have to do complete trace of the parts original orgin. If they are stolen you may have to forfit the stolen property but I doubt you will be charged with anything as long as there is no connection between you and the seller of the parts other than that transaction. Now if you are like his best friend and he sold you stolen stuff you may have somthing to worry about. Then I can see the law saying that you knew he stole the parts and you arranged to have him steal them and buy them from him. Well I hope it all works out in the end. Sorry to hear of your bad luck.
