so get an 06? if you are getting an car to be the coolest kid in your school... dont buy an evo. u could buy a way cooler car for 25,000 that would be a lot more reliable. -
buy something no one has.

what is so much better about an sti? just curious? is it the fact that it is a pain in the ass to even change the spark plugs? or is it the fact that they are slower then an evo?
-
they sound cooler than a evo...thats about it.
-
sti's suck, especially the way they rip through clutches.

you can make an EVO sound identical to the STI easily...pull off one of the spark plug wires
damn!!! does that work on eclipses too?

But yes, the EVO is a superior straight line car than is the STi...subaru never claimed to make a fast 1/4 mile car, though there are some fairly quick ones out there. I'll even go as far as to say that the Evo has the superior motor, even though it is .5 liters short on displacement.
The thing to consider is this. In the US (where 1/4 mile racing is 2nd only to left-hand-turn-racing) the 4G63 has been used for what, 17 years now? Seems logical that the tuners have worked out all the tweaks in that amount of time, now the EJ257 (STi motor) has only been available in turbo form for 3 years or so and admittedly are a bit behind the curve when it comes to 1/4 mile times, but are still respectably close, at least in the realm of mortals.
Another factor in the 1/4 mile times is the 6 speed transmission, in stock form, you will have to shift 4 times minimum (5th gear) going down the track and possibly 5 times...compare that to an Evo which will shift 1 less time and you can see where the loss in speed may come from just from shifting. Reason (again) for this is because the STi was not supposed to be a drag car, but rather a rally/rally-x/auto-x/roadcourse car.
None of the above are excuses for it being slower, but rather observations based on reality. If you want a faster 1/4 mile car, buy an Evo.

I just want an evo because no one in my school has one
