I was surprised it dropped like a rock. Not enough speed I guess

I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the speed, just the pitch of the ramp, and the weight distribution of the car...

I Don't think most cars are engineering to be powered by rockets and jumped off steep ramps.

This is a video of some maniac trying to jump a rocket powered Lincoln over an 8 story ramp across a river that is one mile wide. Enjoy...

You know that Evil Knievel tried the same thing over the grand canyon, right? Only he was basically riding in the rocket and knew he had ZERO chance of making it. Prior to his jump he told his wife what he wanted on his tombstone and basically said goodbye to his family cuz he was sure he'd die.....he got lucky and didn't miss nearly as bad as he thought he would, he thought he'd hit the water and die on impact, as luck had it he landed on the river bank and lived.

(I haven't watched this video yet...at work, can't access it)

Chuck would kick the car across, while he was in it.
Henry would have just eaten the car then jumped across

Using the basic physics equation for range, and assuming they built the ramp at the correct angle for maximum distance, and neglecting air resistance, and rounding up both the speed of the car and the height of the ramp, there is still no way he could even come close.

I think that the idea was that the rocket engines could fire throughout the flight, propelling him the whole time: would work if it wasn't a car, or a really plane/rocket/projectile shaped car

Thinking about it, with a propulsion engine setup, wouldn't the angle of the ramp not even matter. In theory he could generate his own lift. So as long as he started above the level of the water, he could make it??

this is correct if said rocket is propelling him over 200mph and he has something to direct airflow ie flaps and rudders.. which would basically make it a plane and therefore not cool, anyone could fly a sesna over a hole.

if the wings were designed in such a way as to create enough lift, yeah.

just having rockets propelling him the whole time wouldn't make him fly all the way across. the front end would just lift up like it did in the video, and the car would end up doing back flips till it hit the water.
