a 5spd ranger gets 24mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. The 2.3 is a reliable motor.

      FASTER THAN DUBBSY

I was kind of interested in a blazer, but my parents just bought my sister a blazer.

Chris - You and your fords... shit on you 🙂

wannabe - Nice. I may have to do some looking.

PSiedTSi - S10's are nice, but kinda small. Kinda lookin' for something a lil bigger.

Jim - You paying for it? 😉

we towed a car from the cities with a s10 with a 4.3L at 70mph no problem.

colorados are extremely overated as far as what the are suppossed to get for gas mileage.

our old 98 sanoma zr2 got just over 18 back and forth to sioux falls with the cruise set on 80. get one with a 5-speed that isnt the off road addition and it would probably be decent

I pull shit all the time with my S10. Pulled my car down to Sioux Falls and back, pulled a guys car home from Salt Lake City, UT, pulled a car to Iowa, etc. Only had problems in the mountains...slowed down to like 50 on some of the big climbs;) Works great. I get 19-20 mpg pretty much all the time.

If you are going fullsize though, GM is going to get the best mileage.

I dont do much towing... so an S10 would be fine

I actually do like them, but I like the fullsize trucks to. But S10's will get much much better gas millage than a fullsize.

Thanks, I'll keep the S10's in mind 😉

BTW - do s10's get expensive to fix?

                    Depends.

I shelled out $1800 for a new 4.3 long block. I just got back from a deployment so it was no biggie.

You can easily with a Dakota...

An S10 isn't that small really. 91nbtsi drives one and he's not short... Just get one with 4 doors or an extended cab...

Our V8 Durango gets 18mpg on the highway because its full-time 4wd, so I know if you got a Durango/Dakota that was switchable 2wd/4wd, it'd easily get in the 20s...

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Dakotas are pieces of shit. If you like driving trucks that have shitty balljoints, trash heater cores every 20k, and are just plain pieces of shit, then yeah, get a Dakota.

My Jeep is an awsome vehicle. but isnt the easiest to work on. well put together. hasnt ever broken down, its a 97, but the AC is ghey, and i dont care to fix it, we the flapper that goes from hot to cold doesnt close the hot side all the way and its 26hrs labor to do the job not including the parts. GHEY

If you want a full size pickup you can really that you could do anything with and still get great milage then you want a dodge cummins.

Youll get the best milage with the older 12 valve engine (94-98.5) though the 24 valve (98.5-02) and common rail (03-pres.)get damn good milage with a programer, and they will last forever. the 12 valve is absolutely indestructable though.

I have a large fuel plate and full length 5" exhaust (350hp 700ftlbs wheel) and i get 21mpg and 17 towing 75 mph on interstate. A 2wd version can get upwards of 25mpg

Shit that is funny..... i owned a mint 97 2wd 5speed ranger with the 2.3L before i traded for the cummins.

And this is no lie.... sure you can get 25-28 mpg traveling at 50mph and I did... but on the interstate it was a joke.... that thing was labored to death trying to keep 75 on flat ground even with a little headwind, and on the west side of bismarck when you start getting hills.... fuck it was all over, i kinda felt bad for the engine.

I never got better than 17mpg on all the trips i made from Wahp to home 350miles, All interstate, and this pickup was perfect running condition
