If there isn't a cat on it then they don't have to put one on. The can make the exhaust anyway you want. If there was a cat to begin with then they legally cannot remove it.

Who was this? I have dealt with some exhaust shops in town that gave me some bs because they really didn't want to do the work because i wouldn't let them do it there way. I have pretty much always went to muffler man in moorhead and they are the ones that gave me that info. -

What are you referring to when you are saying that would defeat the purpose of a cat?...all i want is a big cat to put on the car while a shop (leroy...this is just going by his rules) does the exhaust from the cat-back. of course the cat will get taken off...i just want it there so he'll actually make the exhaust for me...i'm guessing it'll be pretty cheap beings he made a 2.5 catback for the sol 1-2 years ago for $65 plus $10 to weld the muffler on...so it'd be like 100 for him to do the piping all in 3"...
to answer your second question...
i dont have the piping, nor do i have a bender...and i'm not gonna spend a bunch of money on getting random piping only to have to weld it up.
I would consider a premade exhaust that's already 3" too...but finding one at a half decent price can be quite a challenge.

Buy an Ebay test pipe adam.most of them are 2.25 and premade to fit where the stock cat goes...this means that if the downpipe or the catback itself is off, that the ebay test-pipe won't work...i may have to custom make one (that i could prolly do myself...i just dont wanna deal with a whole exhaust...but cutting a straight pipe and doing 2 welds wouldnt be bad...)

Leroy does good work.look on mangnaflows website. and give me the numbers you want, Ill get you a price.
also, Ill pm you some pics and see if that is what you want.
i'll do that...also, did leroy ever give you his rules on a cat? because right now there's no cat on the car...so judging by what you told me, he should still be able to make the 3" exhaust...?
im gonna check magnaflow's site right now...see what comes up

FYI
The law is that if the car came originally equiped with a cat, the shop has to install one. This only applies to vehicles that are going to be driven regularly on the street. If it is a strip, race, off-road or show car a cat doesn't need to be installed.
It is a heafty fine for the shop if they are caught not installing the cat. Place got fined around $50,000 a few years ago for not installing cats. Went out of buisness because of it.
just take your car in, say you have a race only version at home the same make. have them bend it all up based of your car, then go install it yourself. Saves thier ass from being fined.
