I'm planning on getting my windows tinted this spring and am debating on the darkness of the tint. I know people like hjermstad used to get owned almost weekly with tint tickets with his 5% tint. Post up your tint % and how many times (if any) you've been pulled over FOR tint or have had it brought up/questioned/tested as a result of some other traffic violation...FM area incidences only please!

Just beause some people get lucky and don't get bothered doesn't mean you won't. If you do it dark, you can always get it re-done lighter if you get pulled over. But I can tell you from personal experience that 5% is a HUGE pain in the ass to see out of at night. Like it's almost not safe. 20% is even a little retarded.

My roommate got stopped and the tint tested his window which he got done at tintmaster at 50% and the tint test came out at 47% and he got a ticket for it. Some cops are dicks about tint tickets.

IMO i wouldnt go too dark on the sides but go crazy on the rear. it can really suck when they pull you over for it on the interstate every week. but they really cant check the rears for actual percentage i dont think. the darkest i would go is 20% on the sides. ive been ticketed close to 15 times between ND and MN and they suck to pay. in minnesota its either 110 or 120 i dont remember for everytime you get it and thats about how much i paid for the sides. so if you are worried just go lighter, that way you dont have to go back. people expect you to pay with your first born to take tint off. it really really sucks to do if its cured on there.
But on another note 5% was awesome, you can see out but not in. I didnt have a problem seeing out of it at night but i could see how it could bug some people. you get used to it fairly quickly.

in my opinion i would go with 50% upfront and 20%in the rear...my $.02 -

I used to have 50% on the front two roll downs and 5% the rest of the way back, and was never had any issues with cops anywhere.
Now I have 5% on all four roll downs and 50% on the front (a bit excessive to some but I get extreme migranes from the sun and certain styles of lights). I've been pulled over a few times for it but never a ticket. I just explain to them why I have it and tell them I have no problems with going to court for it (not in a little punk ass way). I know one main reason for getting pulled over too was having powder on my plates for being white, so i just changed em over to NOT OEM.
MN still can be pricks just traveling through too no matter what tint you have.

ive got 30% all around. pulled over for the first time at 6 in the morning on the way to work cause the cop was bored.
no ticket though, and its been on my car for like 2 years

35% all the way around. DarkDan down in Owatonna did an excellent job and he charges $160 to do Mustangs. I've never been hassled for it either.I know that guy.. On a forum that's local to an area south of the cities, he posts a lot of his work.. He seems to be pretty good and charges reasonable..
I have like 22% or that is what the meter read, only got 1 ticket but that was when I first went into IOWA, their Tint laws are like no darker than 70%..
If you have like a white car, and dark tint, it'll be more noticeable compared to darker colored cars..

see i don't want to vary the tint. I want the same shade all around. I'm thinking 35% might be the way to go...

Factory tint on GM trucks and SUV somewhere around 25%( I can't remember). My jeep is lighter. I have had 35%(all 5 window) on one car and 20% on 2 vehicles(all 5 windows) I have never got pulled over for tint in any of them. I have been pulled over with tint on and the cop never even said a word about my tint.

in my opinion i would go with 50% upfront and 20%in the rear...my $.02So where did you get all this info from? 7% tint would be extremely dark, you must have meant 93%. They measure by how much light passes through the tint/window. The amount of tint in a factory window depends on the car manufacturer. They're not all the same, but they can not be any darker than 70% on the front 2 windows of any vehicle because of state laws. Rear windows on trucks/SUVs are obviously darker in a lot of cases, somewhere around 20% like someone stated.
And no, weather does not have any effect on how your windows will meter. Their tool for measuring that, measures how much light passes through, not how dark the clouds are that day.

One of the maximas has 30% all around. Never been hasseld. I even just had the car inspected by the state patrol and they never said a word about it.
