So where did you get all this info from? 7% tint would be extremely dark, you must have meant 93%. They measure by how much light passes through the tint/window. The amount of tint in a factory window depends on the car manufacturer. They're not all the same, but they can not be any darker than 70% on the front 2 windows of any vehicle because of state laws. Rear windows on trucks/SUVs are obviously darker in a lot of cases, somewhere around 20% like someone stated. And no, weather does not have any effect on how your windows will meter. Their tool for measuring that, measures how much light passes through, not how dark the clouds are that day.
yes i did mean 93% sorry. as far as the weather part goes than why did my friend get a ticket for 38% on a cloudy day than the next day went to the hp office and got it retested at 43%?

I could see the weather affecting it slightly. There will obviously be some machine error as well, but, a sunny day there is going to be more ambient light around that could affect the read on the meter.

Either way it was over the limit.

It's totally dark outside therefore the windows are darker? I think not, sorry. I'd definitely have to see that one to believe it.

I don't really care one way or the other because they can say whatever they want.

I have 20% all around... except windshield, and have been pulled over twice, and cops never even asked about tint... one time i also didnt have my switch hooked up to roll my window down, so i had to open the door, so obviously he saw the tint very well.... but i wouldnt go darker then 20% on any window... darker can look bad, but sometimes its allright...

I had 5% on the fronts on my old talon, that sucked to see out of at night... I got tired of rolling the windows down to see if cars were coming.
On the BMW i had 35%, 50% on the windshield... loved it.
I got several tint tickets on the BMW, but mostly just cause they wanted to see if i was drunk I think

I've always gotten 50% on my cars (except for the gsx which had some nice purple early 90s stuff when i got it) and i've never had a problem. I remember hearing from someone a while back that the cops will hassle you more if they cant see into your car, I always roll down the window right away if I get pulled over anyway, but I guess that makes sense.

I had Texas tint (3%) on the back window of a Blazer I used to own. I was pulled over every once in a while but never got hassled in Texas or up here. On my Suburban I have factory tint, I'd say it's around 50% on the 2 rear roll downs and the back doors, I got pulled over weekly and thoroughly checked until I took the Texas plates off and had MN plates. Ever since then I haven't been pulled over for b/s and never a hassle when I have been stopped for non b/s reasons.

When I got pulled over a couple months ago for no front licience plate, the cop did not mention the 20% on my front windows along with 5% on rears. he also didn't mention the fact I didn't have an exhaust...that's just my own personal experience. I've heard several people getting crap from state patrol however. I rarely drive on the interstate.
