are you sure you don't mean d15y7? that was available in the 96-00 civic dx/lx/cx and the d16y8 was available in the 96-00 civic ex

He wants to swap a vtec head on to his non-vtec block. This is also called a "Mini me", for all the information you will need go here.

that much i was aware of, being as the ex civic has the only vtec sohc (to the best of my knowledge); i was just thinking that he must've made a typo that would successfully confuse anyone that didn't know much about the d-series
ps- i am right about the engine codes, aren't i?

HONDA'S SLOW LOLLOLLLLOOLOOOLLO NOT A DSM LOLOLOLO, OWN3D!!!!!

            Anyway if he has a 96-00 civic the LX,DX,CX all came with d16y7's. ( 6th Gen. )
Now if we are talking 5th gen then it would be a d15y7 that came in the VX,DX,LX,CX but then he would want to swap a d16z6 head on to his block so we can assume he is talking about a 6th gen civic.

The HX model also comes with a SOHC VTEC engine. ( d16y5 )

maybe i am thinking of the d16y7? my g/f has a d16z6 and supposedly the d16yx has a better intake manifold? correct me if i'm wrong. its been awhile, i gave up on her d16 and am just aiming for a swap.

Just to get this all straight. I have a 97 (6th gen) CX with a D16Y7 and I want to take the head off a 6th gen EX which has a D16Y8 (SOHC VTEC). One question I have is if my stock intake manifold will fit on the new head.

If you put that intake setup on that head you might as well just not even bother swapping anything. Just order a full Y8 or Z6, their so damn cheap anyways.

All D-series IM are interchangeable. I'm with Nick on this one get the y8 it will flow to the head better then your y7 would.

you will need a new tranny too because the gearing is steeper get an si or ex tranny and you should notice a diffrence

He will not "Need" a new tranny, but a ex/si tranny would be shorter.

ok sorry its just not going to be worth the swap with the taller gears of a cx tranny, a dx is pushing it, i had a friend do a mini me swap last summer and he had a dx tranny in his car, he swaped it out for a si and was running mid 15 all motor
