Since my dad just bought a new ATV, and I will be auto crossing next year, we are going to be going half in on a nice helmet. Just wondering if any of you have words of advice when buying one. I have a big head, and I like really cushy helmets. I don't even know where to start looking for helmets.

I need a close face helmet for the ATV(winter river riding), or maybe one that can convert to open face?

Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately
preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards
          31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable.

I cant remember if they are snell or not, but Arai helmets are bad ass. They are european, and i seem to remember them not being snell, but something to check into

HJC helmets. all are clearly marked on the label for regulations. I can help you find them.

I personally wouldnt want a open to closed, what happens if you wreck and what holds it in place brakes thats more stuff to brake your face.

Full facers get a little hot standing still in the line. but i always take mine off until 1-2 car are infront of me.

              PM me for:
              Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
              Diesel repairs or performance products.

I have a few helmets you could possibly choose from, especially if you want MX style. HJCs are the best for the money in my oppinion, very reasonably priced and good shit.

I'm thinking about buying a helmet too, as I wanna do more autocrossing and possibly a little drag racing next year, and it kinda sucked using the loaner helmets, and then having to run them back up to the front so the next person could use them.

Having your own helment is the best. No sweaty shit from other people.........

You won't be needing the helmet at IDR. Well... They have not asked me to put one on yet.

I think you're supposed to have one, checked their website and this is what it says..

New HELMET requirements for this year! If you need a helmet (13.99 and quicker), your helmet must now meet one of the following specs:

Snell K98, 2000, 2005, or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, 31.1/2005, 41.1A, 41.2A, or 41.1/2005. (Those of you with superchargers or open body cars, check the NHRA rulebook.) Check the rulebook or email with questions

so if you're breaking into the 13s or lower you should have one....

I would agree. If I had a car to autocross all the time I would definitely buy my own. Thats prollyy the worst part of autocrossing. Otherwise It's a blast.

MX style is designed for better periferal, although not as good as an open face, but you can also use them in the winter.

IIRC, HJC's usually cost anywhere from $150-$300....if you want to go all baller and get a suomi or arai, they usually go for $500-$700...

Z1R's are pretty good, pretty cheap, and I think they're pretty cushiony if you have a globe head. Good luck finding one in town, though, I don't know where to look.

                                  • I picked up my HJC for 180, iirc at U Motors. Full face. Doesn't help much for you.
