I got pulled over in my mazda for a burnt-out taillight in west fargo (should know better than to drive in west fargo in a lowered truck)
....by a cop going the other direction, who pulled off to the side to U-turn to follow me when I was about half a block in front of him. He let me off with a warning, after I told him I didn't know it was out, I'm trying to get it running right and was actually out driving trying to get the battery charged back up - and he suggested that maybe I'd get harassed less after getting it back up to stock height, too.My exhaust was rusted out right behind the cat, I'd just pulled the old muffler off bare-handed a couple days earlier, because it wasn't doing anything anyway. The cop didn't mention the exhaust, but I've patched it up somewhat since, just for my own sake. It was loud as shit, and I had to leave the truck running during the stop.
I call it profiling, both cases - the initial stop - but still, my case, something was actually wrong, and I fixed it (thanks for the warning, because I didn't know) - but exhaust laws in town here are rather vague, and they do go by officer discretion. I don't know your whole exhaust setup, though -- good chance there's nothing actually wrong with it, legally.
Lots of cops/patrol officers see a custom car, custom paintjob, custom decals, custom anything on the road, and see it as a quick ticket buffet - all-you-can-cite sort of thing.
cops hate ricers because everybody hates ricers. it's math.
the problem begins when "rice" gets generalized to anything modified. my two cents. -
I drove by a FPD in my hatch with open header revving at about 4-5k. Didn't do anything. When I had the Cressida I had 2.5 basically straight back and drifted around a corner during the middle of winter and all I got a ticket for was a taillight out. Explaining to a female cop that 185 tires don't work well in the winter FTW! Some people just have shitty luck.

I've been told that if you have a worn out exhaust that you won't get a ticket for it, but if you have an exhaust that is at all non-stock (mainly looks...noise isn't a factor...i've had the "i can tell your exhaust is illegal by the way it looks" pulled on me before) and you did it on purpose...you will get ticketed...aka, if you have a fully functioning exhaust that is quieter than a worn out exhaust, you will get a ticket because you made your car that way...Straight from the mouth of the HP.
And Joel...I don't mind you man, but c'mon...you are trying to act all grown up and all you are doing is making yourself look like an asshat. If everybody just gave up and learned to cope with shit, politics wouldn't exist and we'd all be machines with no purpose...you can sure cope on your own when it comes to being profiled...i refuse to except it as a part of life and will continue to fight it whenever it comes my way.

harm, ive never been hassled with my truck. i got pulled over for running a stop sign by my work ( 7th st is basically a private street right now, so i never stopped at that sign), and for a few days after there was a squad hovering around, and even followed me from 7th ave to the shop, but i didnt do anything wrong anyways, but anyhow, as far as my truck goes, never been hassled. on a side note, have you checked out www.dropculture.com yet?

So just because you have never been hassled for something means that they can never stop you for it? I have never been hassled about the tint on my car so they should never be able to give me hell about it even though it breaks the law?

no offense meant on the previous post, i dig your truck. had to put mine away for the winter, though, it was getting less and less drivable and more "in the way on the road."
just saying cops notice most of us on here more often than others because a lot of our vehicles are noticeably different from all those stockers out there. That, and we've got a lot of showoffs and ricers. LMAO.

I got pulled over just for having a Rotary....WTF? No not really.
I am suprised I haven't been pulled over since rock my ride. I drive my car hard almost everywhere I go. I like it and it's fun. If I get pulled over, I'm aware of the consequence and am fine with it. I've been told by a few people that they heard what sounded like an indy car coming down the street and look out and it was me.....
There was one time this summer when I guess the cops heard us coming down universityand the next thing we know there was like 6 cop cars in with our group. They followed us to Taco Bell and blocked of the exits. The gave us the whole loud exhaust spill and how it is always us that are being the dumbasses on the road everynight. Whatever.

Zoom Zoom.......By your own admission it is you being a dumbass. You say you can live with the consequences of your actions...fine, but myself and others have to live with them too. Every time one of us drives like a retard, it paints a negative image in the minds of law enforcement. Drive like a dumbass in front of me, and I will call your plates in. And when I say I drive my car hard everywhere I go, It's meant that usually take 1st up to 8000rpm and then shift and then hit cruise. You see I drive one of those gay wankels that get no power below 5 grand. An occational clutch kick here and there when no one is around, and almost always a 40oz in one hand and loading my crack pipe with my other. I usually don't speed much more than 5mi above speed limit. My car is all looks and sound. I don't remember the last time I ever tried racing someone. My car is by no means fast. Consecutive 15.9's is nothing to be proud of. Joels probe ran faster. I get riced prolly more than anyone. Prolly not, but maybe.
I wouldn't doubt that if someone lives near me, they hear me leave my house almost everytime.

I don't know what you guys are talking about I dove my car for a week with just headers and the 2.5 inch H-pipe on, its about as loud as a jumbo jet taking off over your head, passed a few cops and never got pulled over. I also drove it for two years with no mufflers just a hollowed out cat and the cops complimented me on it every time lol
