Shitty cell phone reception

VZN FTL. That guy that went psycho in the west acres verizon store had the right idea.I get decent coverage most places in Fargo. I occasionally have trouble in my basement. I'm using a pre-paid T-mobile SIM on an unlocked ebay phone with a Southern California phone number... both ebay specials. I keep setting up frieends with this setup because they're sick of paying 80/mo for verizon to keep running more commercials. I've spent perhaps $150 since may on my phone usage, and i get whatever handset I feel like using, not whatever shitware Verizon feels like locking you into for 2 years.
You must not talk on the phone or text much.
You must also not use any of the data features that VZW's network provides.
You must like old outdated GSM phones.$80? I was paying $75 with a $25 dollar a month data plan.
VZW phones / PDA's out do any other providers (don't try to say the iPhone or Asian GSM phones are sweet, becuase asian GSM phones 3G features dont work here, and the iphone is a POS)...
I get signal in places where tmobile has no service (alot of places in the middle of nowhere).
Yes, im a VZW fanboy.

I am also a verizon fan partly because i work there but I also believe you get what you pay for. So if its the cheep gsm phones that you like then by all means have your own way.
All I have to say is Blackberry owns all phones!!:icon_cheers:

my phone sitting up against the window of my room right now has 1 bar for services and 2 bars for EV. It used to be 4 for each pretty much everywhere. I think a trip to VZW tomorrow is in order.Call verizon directly or go to a corporate store. Also did you try a hard recet on the phone? That and *228 is the usual the troubleshooting for bed reception.

Well, irrespective of what I like, I'm better served by being on a GSM carrier, as the market is considerably larger and thus intrinsically better. What verizon product is there that doesn't also exist in a GSM version? 6 month "embargo" phones don't count. My wife and I both have non-US market phones.
The way i see it -- vzn is rolling with the outdated, lame phones. I don't feel awesome about myself based on how much coin i can drop on something i'll want to replace in a few years.
I setup some friends (that don't text, and hardly use their phones) with Motofone F3s.. which you cannot even GET from a US carrier, but which have 3 weeks of battery life.. epaper display, etc etc. They're pretty cool.

You are 1 person. Try to price out a familyshare plan for 2 phones for a married couple on VZN. The cheapest one you can get.

for the sake of argument, what phone can you get that I can't get in a GSM version?

Where t-mobile has coverage is irrelevant, since they have agreements with basically everybody. Minnesota is blanketed with GSM.. i get better coverage at my lake place in minnesota than i do in fargo. There are 2 operating GSM networks i register on in fargo.. and between the two i'm happy with my signal and coverage.
Yes, im a VZW fanboy.
That's fine.
I find their corporate behavior highly distasteful. I will never own another subsidy locked phone ever again. The value provided to me by verizon was not commensurate with the amount they were billing me, so I left.
Hopefully my next phone will be an openmoko device.

Larger market = automatically better? Really?
CDMA has proven itself a superior technology time and time again.
"I don't feel awesome about myself based on how much coin i can drop on something i'll want to replace in a few years."
?? I always aim to get the best deal.
"Try to price out a familyshare plan for 2 phones for a married couple on VZN. The cheapest one you can get."
My parents have 4 lines on thier family share, and it works out to be roughly ~20-25 a line w/ 1500 minutes, unlimited text and picture services...
T-Mobile does NOT have agreements with everybody, and CDMA services have greater reception inherently and have further more coverage. Not to mention there are ZERO 3G services available on the fargo GSM networks.
I'm sure Verizons corporate behavor is so much worse then At&T's and T-Mobiles.
Not to mention the ridiculous cost of having "new" unlocked GSM phones, and why would even want them if you can't use the full feature set?
Where do the majority of cool new phones come from? Korea. LG, Samsung, etc...yes I do know they make them for the GSM market as well, however... but the crazy technology is all based on CDMA style phones...

I dont want to sit on the phone for 2 hours. or stand in line for 2 hours. Ill just go to go wireless in moorhead. They have done everything else for me and I am never there more then 20min. I'll go to a corprate store if i can walk out with the voyager with out paying a more.
Joel is having the same issues I am, we both have the lg 8700. Maybe there fake Stainless steel covers screwed something up.

yes. but unfortunately if your phone had water damage. (humidity) they will not touch the phone. not even for updateGetting a phone wet enough to have water damage (the dot in the inside turns red), would most likely be the source of your problems...
I'm not sure if you can really blame Verizon as a bad company for having a phone get wet?
