This is aimed towards the Pontiac doosh on the first page:

Good friend of mine turbo'ed the D16 in his 92 Civic EX. 273k miles on it. Ran a 13.0 on a turbo setup of DSM parts.

And it looked better than a Pontiac Grand Prix, Am, or whatever they are.

The only V6's that GM produced that was worth a shit was in the Grand National, and the Syclone/Typhoon.[/thread]

GASP Novel idea, they were longitudinally mounted!

WOW, somebody got butt hurt. A honda or even an import guy in general wouldn't blow up like that, he'd take it with a grain of salt, probably have nice chuckle about it and then life would go on. Damn westerners. 😄 :p:

You seriously think that a 92 civic looks better than a Grand Prix. Did you eat paint chips as a child?:icon_scratch:
I love the Grand Prix's not a hot rod by a long shot but when your driving one its not like sitting on a floor jack either. Who the hell ever thought a FWD car, much less a honda one, could handle. RWD owns all.

I see 2 cars...1 can handle and is probably pretty fast, the other is a boat on wheels and body rolls like a mother...Any civic is sexier than any grand prix or grand am ever made...

I'd rather have a stiff suspension and be able to fly round curves then sit in a boat and feel like your gonna tip over every time u turn...

You sure talk alot about how much better RWD and domestics are than whatever else for driving a piece of shit. I would put my money on a stock civic to out handle your car anyday.

Anyways, i can see modding a 3800 sc for drag racing but that is about it. They can be made reasonably fast for not too much money, but the trannys are absolutely garbage and auto sucks. The rest of the cars i wonder about tho....

Did no one read my request to keep the spam and bashing out of here? seriously. There are about 3 useful posts in this thread. I didn't ask what was better, I asked for peoplesmotivation. I know about the 3800, but not in the performance sense.

Seriously, honda fanbois should sit down and re-read the question. Also, the 99snow is probably in highschool and has never driven a fast car, hence his post. Ignore those and try to learn something. Thats what this thread was about.

You do realize that all 3.8L engines are based off very similar block designs....

I don't really have a "side" to route for I have owned both the 3.8L and B16 and B18's and they are both engines with potential. I can speak from the point of a FWD 3.8L but I have a V6 Camaro and there is plenty of ways to make daily drivable 350HP camaro that will run sub-13's. I don't care what you guys are going to say I know there are plenty of honda's that will do the same. But everyone and there dog is tuning a Honda and those that aren't have a GT Mustang or a Z28 Camaro. I don't personally have a turbo 3800 but a good friend of mine does and there is nothing like the reaction of a GT mustang or Z28 owner looking over at you after they just got walked by a V6. I personally would never build a W-body because the transmission options are so limited.

Why does this remind me of High School so much? Everyone sticking to their clicks bashing the other people that aren't in their crew.

I do not think that most Honda's look good. They just dont do it for me. There are a handful that I would find acceptable. But if someone rolls up in a Honda that has work done to it, no matter if it suits my tastes or not, Ill check it out. Unless the guy is a complete dick-wad Ill look at the engine and the interior and appreciate the work.

Grand Prix's look a lot better then Grand Am's. They have been a completely different car for a very long time. I think the best engine the Grand Am ever got was GM's 3.4L DOHC. GP guys hate having there cars called Grand Am's.

GP's and the like are a lot heavier then most imports. With $150 in upgraded parts I can already see a huge difference in my cars handling ability. Ive only added stronger sway bars, stronger front trailing arms and I have a front tower brace in my garage.

I don't want this to turn into a big Import vs. Domestic pissing match. just putting out my opinion in a non-threatening informative manner. Any specific questions? ask away.

lots of people have mods on the ecotec engines in the cavaliers and saturns and whatnot and are pretty happy with them I think. that being said i'd never buy one. as for the grand ams and grand prix, they are as synonymous to me as cars for blonde girls' sweet 16 presents as jettas are to blonde girls' going away to college presents, so I don't look twice at them.

I believe that was in Car Craft, so with some track prep it could get a little lower.

all hating aside that would be comparing a gtp to a base model honda. yea a gtp will walk all over a 92 civic cx. (like 72 horse)

but what i meant was that base model vs. base model with a few hundred added to each is that a civic SHOULD get the better of the gain....not saying it will

now if ur regal is the one i always see at the track in street legal days then i got props cuz i love that car. but like u said i see more in honda than gm as u see more in gm than honda. everyone has their own niche.

I think its a matter of taste. i personally would much rather have the grand prix well because you can use it, whereas the civic you can maybe cram 4 adults into it...maybe. My brother and I are both over 6 feet tall and had no problems having three people sit behind us, who were also comfortable, in his 97 gp coupe. A civic coupe might as well not have a back seat its utterly useless. The rest of those cars I can't speak to but the Grand Prix, while it may be a boat, is a sporty car when compared to other cars in its class. The 1 code 3.8's are pretty sweet very durable and fun to drive even if they don't handle very well. They also are very attractive cars IMO the civic just looks cheap, which it is. At a certain point you have to realize where the road car dies and the track car lives, for a track car the grand prix is not the ideal platform, but for a nice, reliable, kinda fast, DD you can't lose.

                                        Now the hijacking resumes

I see so because my car, in particular, isnt fast yet i have no room to talk about this subject. I am simply stating an opinion, and yes for the record with the right mods my car could out handle any civic. Simply because of weight distribution and the massive aftermarket for fox chassis vehicles. Some foxes are extremely fast and with some weight reduction, a cage, new K-member, control arms, coil overs, and brakes my car could be made to handle very well. I could even put in an IRS if i wanted to and had the money. Keep your personal attacks to a minimum until we are face to face then you can say whatever you please, but I'm not personally attacking any civic owners. Just stating the obvious fact that RWD cars in general handle better than FWD ones, unless all those indy and Grand Touring teams lost the memo stating that FWD cars could out handle RWD ones.

Ive spent about $1500 and I should be in the high 13's next season. Im also being conservative with my pulley... it's a daily driver.

The Regal you've seen at the track is probably Ben Stiff's. He has spent a lot of time and money on that car. He did my porting and my tuning. Ben is a great guy from in Mlps, let me sleep in his basement when we did all the work on my car.

I still believe it's all about what you grow up with, what your friends have, and what you think looks good. I rarely bash a car just because of what brand it is... add a 6 foot wing and a fart can and I can't help to chuckle a bit. If he takes me in a race, ill give props where props are due.
