^eh........ Where you get those kind of prices on intakes and exhaust??? Ebay?
Just the intake and cat back from ZZP is over $600

Also, I don't remember it all. It's been 4 years since i looked at L67 stuff, I was going to swap my 95. But doesn't it take some more mods to be truly able to use the differant pulley? I mean, yes you can just toss it on. But I remember a list of other things that were highly suggested before a pulley. I looked around and parts have gone down quiet a bit since then. I remember headers were over $600 back then.

Exhuast 3 inch all the way back w/ 2 GTP mufflers cost me $250. Custom exhaust too.

Intake you can buy used easily for $100, just depends on what one you want.

I saved a good chunk of that estimate by not getting a tuner and paying someone to do the tuning. I paid about the same for my exhaust with a bit more because I got Magnaflow mufflers.

I did my own intake for cheaper, but you can find a good system for under $100.

That list would safely run a 3.5 pulley with the correct tune, 3.4 if it reacts well. Add headers or even a ported front manifold and the 3.4 should work well.

The top of the line headers are still $600 but you can find a good used set for cheap. Im waiting to find a deal on The Other Guys headers.

Ok, I think it is just to be different, In some peoples case their different is just weird. lol, But, Anyway i needed a car, so i found a 3.1 sunbird with a manual (a plus) and i wanted to be different/ unique, i have never seen another like it, and have had tons of people say they like it.

yeah, i had a 90 cavilier Z24 as well. It was my first car and i got it for $1k cash, and put 40k miles on it in 2 years. It was a 3.1 5-speed and black and i loved it. as things broke i upgraded them while i was there. sprayed it for fun (100 shot) and blew a head gasket, so i ported the heads and intake and put a cam in it i got for $40. Chip, clutch, and alot of CV shafts, think i put 14 in it total. Anyway that car was quick and fun, and i learned alot. Put a total of about $2200 in it and sold it for $1200. I figure if it hooked it would run a low 14@95 or so which is actually moving in a shitbox. One day i was seeing if it would blow just for fun (had a spare motor) and i wound it out to 7000 rpm in 4 gears, think i hit about 155-160mph, and held it there for 3 miles, didnt hurt it at all. Ah to be young and stupid again, so, thats why kids do it. I do not support any of the body and/or hideously done paintwork on them though, thats just simply retarded

goodnbuzzed - did you seriously find a body kit for the sunbird? agreed, never seen anything quite like that. interesting starting point, and probably pretty quick (for a sunbird at least) with the 3.1?

my first car probably would've been a sunbird if I'd fit in the thing to drive it.. ended up finding a 3.1 grand prix. those engines are actually really solid. If I could find a '90 turbo grand prix (running condition, reasonable price), I'd probably buy it. It'd just have to find a place to stay.

^ u can find a body kit for almost everything...they even had some for my old regal, lol. I have to say the 3800's are good engines and last a long time, my 90 regal 2dr has 226k on it and runs great, I loved that car, most comforable thing i've driven. I personally would never mod one...I think of them more as winter beaters or road trip cars. I did see a Reatta once that was pretty sweet, 3800 supercharged swap and converted to 5spd...

Since this is way off topic from the first post I'll throw in a few things that go with the current topic(s). The 3800 platform is good......after you replace the intake gaskets, upper intake, ignition (coils are junk), and transmission you can start to make some real power. As for the handling on the GP, like was said....BOAT.

As far as the 3400, 3100, and quad4...ABSOLUTE CRAP! Ecotec has major potential and is starting to show what it can do throughout the world.

Now I have a real question...give one guy a 1997 grand prix base and another guy a 1997 civic base hand each of them $2000 and tell them to come back in a month. Which will be faster in the quarter? Which would do better in an auto-x? Which one would last the longest? I honestly don't know the answer to these questions but I have my bets on which one will last. 🙂

Im gonna go with the civic because for $2gs, you could turbo and tune it, and do suspension with swaybars. Handles decent and pretty quick too.

Obviously my opinion is biased, but show me how to make a base model grand prix easily run low 14's and handle pretty good for $2000. And obvisouly the civic has reliablity.

^If its for auto-x you would be better off not turboing. Because of traction. Also the Civic will have a advantage from the start for having a manual tranny. I guess I don't know how the autos would react on the auto-x course.

This is the dumbest arguement about cars ever.

                      Apple to oranges,

You are trying to compare specific cars in specific situations that only the car you are biased to.

"Lets compare X car to a Y, in a catagory that favors X car only"

This is beyond stupid, and all of the import nutswingers are closing their ears and not accepting that you can affordably mod another fwd american car.

People buy different cars for different reasons than YOU did.

                      Bunch of fucking idiots.

ok, how about this for an analogy
Give 2 people a civic and a grand prix, give them $2000 dollars. Then make them do the drag, auto-x, and road course. BUT, must have 4 people with 500lbs of luggage along and there is 500 miles between tracks.
See, most normal people dont buy shitbox hondas because they actually plan on having a life and friends. This takes a vehicle that is not only cheap, and quick enough, but can seat 4 and their luggage ocmfortably on a road trip. Now like i said, for the people that do hidious visual mods, there is literally no excuse and its a disgrace, just like a tasteless ricer.

any car has the option to go faster. how do you think honda became so "great"? by people taking the you cant do that, and then bam, people start making go fast parts.

See this is why I like E36 BMWs. You can buy a pretty decent 325i for 4-8k, do some preventative maintenance (t-stat, water pump) put a little bit into performance (m3 cams w/tuned chip, intake/exhaust, fan delete, plugs), rims/tires for handling, and you have a nice RWD DD w/around 200whp that will last you a long time. Just slap some winter tires on when it gets cold and you're set.

Or if you spent a little more you could upgrade to a nice 328i/high mileage M3.

Edit: Plus the I6 sounds great. 🙂

I just wanna put this out there and into perspective for everyone. For $1000 you can put a volvo into the 13's extremely easily. Making a car fast doesn't make it cool , even though I love Volvos. I'm just saying that even though your so called unique Grand Prix is decently fast, It's still ugly, and I can do the same thing to my grocery getter Volvo wagon.
