My room mate had one. Great picture. Great price. Horrible sound and I've heard the warranty can be a pain in the ass and the company is bad to deal with. People have been calling them the disposible tv.

We're buying two of these for our house:

                http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=V25-4222&AffiliateID=pnkDUx_cu3o-dtuQ.3L83n_uYCDLDEuKdw

                $800, 42" 1080p

                Hard to beat that...

Yes, you can spend a shitload of money on a TV for marginally better picture quality, but at the end of the day, its still a TV. I watch discovery channel and the food network. 1500:1 or 15,000:1 bobby flay still look the same haha.

Buy an open item name brand at Best Buy and slap on a 4 year warranty so that if the tv fail, which is pretty common, you won't be out a tv. Vizio apparently won't warranty their units...

Basically, 9/10 people will be perfectly happy with a Vizio vs. whatever old tube tv they have now. The major differences come in serviceability and replacement bulbs. Of course, if you buy a 1080p Vizio for hundreds less than a comparable "name brand" you could make the argument that you are getting your money's worth either way. I have a co-worker that has 2 vizio's, he bought a Samsung (or was it Sanyo...can't remember) for his family room and was PISSED that it's quality was worse than his Vizio that he had in his bedroom....so he returned the "good" tv and purchased the "poor" one and hasn't been happier since.

There is a reason that Vizio is the #1 selling TV on the market right now...best bang for the buck.

IDK about Vizio TVs in general though besides the fact that if you put it side by side next to a good brand name tv that they look like shit...just like Insignia and Westinghouse...Polaroids are HORRIBLE. a buddy a mine has had one for just a few months and it slowly had features quit working and now it just doesnt work...they are worthless.

Too bad there is no standard for contrast ratios so samsungs 15,000:1 might be the exact same as X-Brands 4000:1 ratio...

                      Nice try though!

BTW I have a Samsung and absolutely love it.

                      http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/contrast-ratio.html

The unfortunate thing here is that there is nothing mandatory as to the methodology used by manufactures to measure contrast performance of their projectors or display devices, nor are manufacturers obliged to at least specify the method used to arrive at the quoted figures.

This renders a straightforward comparison of contrast performance figures between different imaging devices - especially from different manufactures - almost meaningless.

I'm really picky about computer stuff, and have had my share of high end monitors and all that shit.

Especially with plasmas, there are only a few select manufacters the rest are OEM's... You'll find common parts in alot of them.

I don't really ever buy that extra warranty stuff, and generally have had good luck with it all, I figure by the time it breaks I'll want something bigger and better... (had bad experiences with best buy extended warranty before which led me to belive its worthless)

TV's are yet another one of those things where "you get what you pay for" is way too true. You have to be able to compare all these tvs side by side on the exact same video source in order to see the picture quality differences.

I heard vizio's are bad & break a lot. But that is just what i Heard.

I plan to get a bigger & better tv (1080P 42"+) but not sure what to go with.

What i got nw, is a 1080i 42" maxent from best buy - and so far so good. 🙂

For those looking for a very good, low price unit (720p though) Crosley makes a screen that is an LG Panel and Internals w/ their own outer case...AND comes with a 2 year warranty. If anyone wants pricing, let me know.

For those looking for a very good, low price unit (720p though) Crosley makes a screen that is an LG Panel and Internals w/ their own outer case...AND comes with a 2 year warranty. If anyone wants pricing, let me know.

                                          Any that are 1080P?
