properly aimed hella E-code lights will not blind anyone. I imported european spec halogen projectors from the Audi RS2 for my old car and the european sharp cutoff is a fantastic beam pattern.
If euro lamps are installed in proper buckets they are both LR and UP/DN adjustable and should NOT blind anybody. Daniel Stern (who knows everything there is to know about automotive lighting) has the e-code aiming instructions on his web page.

I would suggest that somebody NOT retrofit HIDs into thier car unless they find a new lens and lamp housing specifically made for an HID style bulb. Not doing so will produce poor lighting and blind oncoming traffic.
Currently I've only seen one product that claims to be a true HID bulb that fits in an a halogen bulb base. I have no idea if this product is worth a damn or not since the way light escapes a HID bulb is entirely different than how light leaves physical-filament halogen bulbs. The lamp optics and bulb mounting must be designed entirely around the design of the bulb in order for things to line up properly.

and they DO make HIDS for your car! I sell them.

because you care about function over rice?
because you know that putting the wrong headlights in a car for looks reason certainly affects the "look" of your ride.... as in if people notice it at all, you look like a dumbass?let's review:
- putting in poorly engineered lights doesn't make your visibility any better
- it makes driving worse for everyone else
- it costs money
what's the upside? do you have a plastic scrotum hanging out of your truck trailer hitch also?

i like how you attack me, when im joking but whatever...yup your right... i couldnt see about a 1/2 to 3/4 mile clearly with hids in my 03 vs. less than 1/8 to a 1/4 a mile with halogens... your right i did put them in a OEM housing... but guess what... it worked, the light went were i pointed it... i could really care less if i blind your ass and make driving horrible for you, i dont give a flying fuck.... because why?.. they were 5x brighter than OEM bulbs, and i live out in the country were it nice to have brighter lights... deer are think in the area were i live, and i like to avoid them as much as possible.... so lets review
- they work better than OEM halogens, so they must "function" better even in a "poorly designed housing".. and i could care less if i blind you, because its "all about me".
- i dont care if you go blind
-yes it costs money.... i have money that i can throw at whatever i want, its mine, i work for it.. who the fuck are you to tell me what to do with my damn money?....... maybe i should hire you for my financial advisor so you can tell me how i got this far in life with out your advise on how to spend "my money". - oh yeah i definatly did it for looks... your right... i am a "ricer", i bought lights that work 5x better than OEM. my fault.. get over it..
and i dont have a plastic scrotum hanging from my truck...what does that have to do with lighting? but i will gladly buy one and beat you with it if you would like.... are you just mad because you dont have a pair of uber sweet HIDs in your sweet ride? cant you afford them? ill buy you a set if you like, just pick some out and ill buy them right out for you....
defective asshole? good one.. you got me there.. though i am not defective and work quite well... i am an asshole, but im not just an E-asshole, im one in person too... look forward to meeting you friend... get over yourself... kthxbye

I'm not really sure where to go from here.
I mean, you say pretty much fuck everyone else, I say that's an asshole thing to do, then you insist you aren't an asshole, then you insist you are an asshole, then you clarify that you're an asshole in real life also.
Then you threaten to beat me with a plastic scrotum, presumably because I suggested that you (or anyone that modifes their vehicle to blind oncoming traffic) were an asshole.
It seems that my error was reminding you that you were going to talk about how much of an asshole you were before you were ready to?
Anyway, you might consider buying pencil beams from a place like rallylights.com to mount on your bumper if you want long distance illumination at night. The advantage of those is that you can turn them off if you decide to get over the assholeness and don't want to ruin other drivers nightvision, or if you drive into town where deer impacts at highway speed are clearly less of a concern.
What you do with your money is obviously your business. There are a lot of light modifications that are functionally a waste of money, as they do nothing to help the driver and also make life worse for other drivers in the process. Your solution apparently makes things better for you, although presumably at the expense of everyone else, which is unfortuneate.
As an aside, I have fancy-pants factory HIDs that move up and down according to sensors in the suspension, and turn left or right based on a steering angle sensor. So I wouldn't ascribe my rancor as HID-envy so much as being tired of people fucking up their headlights because they don't know any better, or because they just don't care about blinding other drivers.
Trucks with bright lights are some of the worst incidentally, as their higher mounting points combined with shitty factory optics combined with redneck drivers that put ultra bright bulbs makes them kind of the trifecta of obnoxious night-blindness. Luckily my rearview mirror has some sort of electrochromatic auto-dimming feature so when jackballs in trucks like this are behind me at a light, my eyes don't melt and drip out of my face.
I'm not looking to get into an e-thugging contest. I "chime in" on these HID-retrofit threads becuase I wish people would take lighting modification more seriously and make sure they do it in a way that is both effective for them and safe for others. Doing so usually costs more money than doing it half-assed, and many people want "the look" and could care less what the affect on everyone else is. If you know of a more effective way to get the message across, I'd be happy to change my tune.

Silverstars are flippin sweet much better than standard halogen bulbs. As far as blue ones go you can get a sealed beam adaptor kit with new lenses for your headlights then put in whatever halogen bulb you want. If you want blue I'd recommend the arctic white ones I sell, trust me they are blue one of my guys has them in his truck, I can usually get em in a day and I'm sure I could find an adaptor kit for you as well.

Do you actually want to discuss any of the points I make about using HID bulbs in non-HID optics, or do you just want to point out that you don't care and have done so anyway?
As far as being an asshole or a WPOS.... your police record probably says more about this than your headlights.

you attacked me first dude..... and IMO... my 06 dosent have "shitty optics"... i do have pencil beams on the front of my truck along with another set of fogs right below that.. but this is what i know... i put a set of HIDs in my 03... light output went up 5x.... i could see better... i could really care less about other people, and i never once got puilled over for it.... i didnt do it to go for "the look" as you called it... why the fuck would i go for the "look" in a fucking dodge ram?... and i never denied being an asshole... just a defective asshole, like i said... i work quite well... and i never said i was going to beat you with a plastic scrotum.. i asked you if you wanted me to buy one and then beat you with it....
this is my motto... do whats best for you and fuck everyone else.... and for future reference.... dont call me a redneck..
