I agree with chuck. That DOES suck you got hit, sorry to hear that, but legally your suppose to be on the street and it technically is illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk. Gay i know.

Faber you lose. The sidewalk isn't called a side-rideyourbike. Bikes belong on a bike path, or the shoulder of a street.

why should a bike have to be on the shoulder? there are no minimum speed limits on in town streets (that I know of) and the should is much more dangerous for a bike than you'd think. Bikes are an fast growing means of transport and the cities or fargo/moorhead are poorly equiped to handle this fact. Optimally I'd love to see "california" style bike lanes along all major roads and have the local drivers start paying more attention. But for the time being, I feel that the resposibility to watch out for cars falls on the bikers right now

. I would also like to see more Bicyclists ticketed for running stops, illegal turns etc. I'm sorry to hear you got hurt, but I see the resposibility as yours

I can guarntee that those of you who put good job for hitting the vehicle and damaging it, etc, would be pissed if a bike ran into the side of your vehicle. Yes, he should have been paying attention, but so should you, and bicycles are hard to see sometimes especially when they are coming off of the sidewalk. Sucks for all involved as far as im concerned.

The only way to miss me riding my bike is to not look at all. I had every intention of stopping, as there was a line of cars behind the truck, so when he stopped I though he saw me and was giving me the go ahead. There is absolutely no way I will ride my bike on 32nd ave ever, that would piss me off if I had to slow down for a bike on that road. Not many bikes can do 40. It wasn't like I missed the truck, a 3/4 ton dodge, I just thought he saw me and was yielding to me.

It is a vehicle, it is NOT a motor vehicle however. See Colin's response for the rest of my reasoning.

I hate almost every bicyclist I've ever come across on city roads for the following reasons. I have yet to see one average joe (not one of those suited out bikers who know their shit, although even THEY do retarded stuff sometimes) who has stopped at a stopsign/light and waited their turn. Yet to see ONE who has signaled their intentions to turn/merge. And have seen several that are biking into oncoming traffic even. Bunch of frickin idiots that I would love to see get ticketed or clipped by a mirror. To those who actually follow the laws and rules, congrats, you're one of the few bikers who do it.

legal or not, the safest place to ride bike in the busier sections of fargo is on the sidewalk. why? look at the HUGE sidewalks, 8-10ft wide down 25st. call me crazy or realistic, but i would never ride my bike on 13ave past the mall, nor would i ever consider riding on 32 ave anywhere paved.

i ride my bike a lot, last year, more than i drove my car. i've seen far too many incidents of people that are oblivious to the world around them to put my life on the line around them, the sidewalk is where i'll ride until we get some proper markings to signify where i should be riding and where cars shouldn't be driving. how about this: until i was... 20 or 21 i didn't know that bikes were supposed to ride on the street. does that tell you something? fargo all but ignores bikes.

here's a better question to pursue: skates, where should they be used?

that explains why it took me so long to find out that bikes should ride on the road instead of the sidewalk, they should ride on the sidewalk. everyone riding a bike has been congenial when i've been on foot and i do the same when i'm riding, that's just common courtesy (i know, can the "common" jokes).

There we go, perfectly legal to ride on sidewalks unless signs say otherwise and pedestrians have the right-of-way.

I too ride my bike...a lot more now for obvious reasons. And unless the street I'm on isn't too busy, I ride on the sidewalk. The only place in town where sidewalk-riding is forbidden is downtown/business district.

I've been hit by a car while riding on the street before and that was with obeying all traffic laws....not again. Any chance I get to grab a sidewalk (while being curteous to pedestrians) and I'll jump on it.

The guy that was driving stopped into the store today and was pretty cool about it, I'm going to call his insurance company tomorrow and hopefully it'll all get straightened out. My shoulder is doing much better but is still sore as hell especially when I wake up in the morning.
